Yakima WA Gunshow

I went to the Yakima WA gun show today. There were less then two dozen vendors at this show with half the vendors selling non fire arm stuff. The cost was $7.00 just to get in the door.

I got lucky as I needed a Remington model 11 16 gage barrel, some .44 magnum once fired brass and a few other odd bits. I found everything. Most of the fire arms were over priced. Even though my pass is good I will not be going back tomorrow......

Can't speak for the 'really big shoows', but South of you in Oregon
things are much the same.
Table renters and show numbers were down this Fall. I did see lots of sales among
the smaller, but dedicated gun enthusiasts attending though.

I feel it is a combination of several things.

Ballot measure 5 here years ago put a halt to many private sellers.
Many of the new gun owners got their one gun and see no reason to return.
We were in a mid-year election cycle with a Congress unlikely to move on gun legislation -i.e. gun rights restrictions.

Things will pick up as we approach the National elections.

My take, JT

The Yakima show is a poor one, has been for several years, my wife doesn't like to go..etc.

Its in a poor location, the building is small, and cramped, and some distance from the parking. Its been going downhill for years.

The Richland show is no better, but with better parking...
The Pasco show is held at the TRAC and is better, and bigger, usually.
The Kennewick show was killed a couple years ago by the asst.DA deciding that ALL vendors had to carry $1million insurance. Even the t-shirt lady and the hot dog guy.

The $70-80 bucks the insurance cost ate the profit of the little guys, so we just quit trying to use that venue. I've had tables, have friends who do, we're not "dealers" in the commercial sense, we're traders & collectors, who sell no longer wanted items. For us, its a heck of a good show when we make enough money for lunch at Wendys after expenses are covered. Often we don't have even that much "profit"

The guys running tables representing FFL shops are another matter. They whine about "how bad" the shows are, all the way to the bank.

EVERYTHING is overpriced, and somehow every old gun they have is a rare one in top condition, but yours are just old junk...

A buddy and I go to the Spokane shows regularly. But even they have become a shadow of what they used to be. Still more people (better selection) than in the valley though.

Admission price is up, true, and a bit of a shock, and many shows don't seem worth it, especially when you don't find what you were looking for. But if/when you DO find a score, its more than worth it.

Sadly that seems to happen less and less these days....

Even the big WAC shows in Monroe and Puyallup are decidedly less fruitful than just a few years ago.

I think the economy is hitting a lot of disposable income, as well as retiring boomers. Most folks curtail their purchases of expensive toys after retirement.

I did. Living on slightly less than half my regular wages had that effect. :D

I've even sold several. :o

Still go to some of the shows, looking for the elusive small number of guns that I have an interest in that I have never owned.
