Ya gotta be kidding...UK to "caution" criminals?

Is this for real? Somebody tell me its a massive April Fool thing

Criminals who commit assault, burgle commercial premises or have small quantities of Class A drugs could be cautioned rather than dealt with in court under new Home Office guidelines.

The list of more than 60 offences which can sometimes be dealt with by a caution includes making threats to kill, causing actual bodily harm, burglary at commercial premises and possession of small amounts of Class A drugs.

And cautions will normally be used to deal with common assault, threatening behaviour, having sex with a girl aged 13 to 15 when a relationship is in place, and having sex with a boy under 16 who consents.

They will not apply to house burglaries.

Cautions count towards criminal records but offenders are not taken to court and do not have to pay a fine or complete a punishment.

So you just get the snot beat out of you in an assault, have some cracked ribs, and other injuries..the officer hands the perp a piece of paper and he heads for the pub for a cool one to relax after his physical exertion, while you go to the hospital to get patched up...

That probably means the guy who assualted you and got a whupping would get a caution, while you go to jail for defending yourself

 You mean some european countries would rather run away from problems rather than dealing with them? (France)

I agree with Glock. Many Euro countries would rather run (or ignor the situation) rather than deal with the problem. Teddy from Ma. would be a happy camper over there.

Where are the pro drug people

I want to hear from them this is a very good thread and it could be argued till doomsday.

The European Countries have always led the way, then we follow.
Just the way of history, America was discovered along with Australia towards the end of the known world.

Now we are the leaders in the last fight, of good vs evil.

LOL

Sheep.

I agree, Harley. Throughout history, there has always been one nation that has been the beacon of light for the masses.

I think the drug issue here is minimal; "cautions" for drug possession are one thing, but "cautions" for assault or other crimes in which another's rights and security are directly violated is something I think we can all agree is utterly ridiculous.

I'm worried about reading the news story in the future where an American is hung by the jury of public opinion over there for beating the snot out of someone who tried to rob him, someone who should've been merely "cautioned" that he commiting a no-no.

Fortunately, the issue resides in England and not here in the states. My concern is that someone like Teddy K. will get winf of this and try to introduce similar legislation. We need to be vigilant...

Nice try, Harley.

The thread(s) to which you're so subtly referring was not about being "pro drug" -- it was about being pro freedom, pro right to own one's self, and a few other philosophies with which you have issue understanding.

I only wish that instead of calling it a "Caution," they called it a "Stern Dressing-Down."
I think the term "scolding" might be more approperiate.

How can they talk mean to criminals like that?? It might hurt their self-esteem!!:D

whats the big deal?

The way I see it, this is a common sense issue. They will probably leave it to the responding officers disgretion. Ive done security work for 15 yrs or better. Ive seen 2 guys get into a fight and the cops arrest both of them. Why? Why crowd the jails? Fighting is a natural thing for men. ALL of my friends have been in fist fights with me.Theres nothing wrong with it. The burglary thing is way outta wack. You steal, you loose a hand, is more like it. DRUGS!!! Drug addicts fill our jail and pollute our legal systems. Let them O.D.! If theyre dealin take em down, If they are casual MJ smokers, let em be. I do believe at least a small fine is in order though. If they legalize MJ, tax the crap out of it, we may be able to provide, more officers, better equiptment, and the finest training, with the tax revenue. Im a firm believer in, Less laws, and better morals. JMO:rolleyes:
