Xtreme makes a 30 cal bullet....30 cal 150 gr FP

LINK

Does anybody reload with this bullet? What are you loading for? What velocity?

I have not used that bullet. Sounds like a good one for a 30-30. What are their prices like? I don't know about you but I started to reload thinking I could save some money. Fat chance, I just shot more. All you can do is give it a try, if it looks like something that will work for you.

Xtreme sent me 30 ct of these 150 gr FP to try, they have thin plating and were only rated to 1500 fps
So following their velocity recommendations I loaded these blue dot and worked up to 1,500 FPS for 30-30 Win, the accuracy was good but at 100 yds these loads printed about 6" low when compared to a standard load.
I'm not sure what Xtreme was thinking of for this bullet, I did not order more of these.
I use xtreme's 123 gr .312" in 7.62x39 with good results, these are rated to 2,000 fps, if Xtreme plates these bullets for lower velocities I wish they would up the weight, a 170 gr .30 cal rated for 2,000 fps and a 150 gr .312" rated for 2,000 fps would be a good idea.

The maximum I can push cast bullets in my Marlin 336 is 1600 fps, then the group blows. So a plated bullet at 1500 fps is not exactly an improvement. The 30-30 is not a magnum cartridge by any means, and if you want your 150 grain bullet to shoot to point of impact, you need to get the velocity up closer to factory jacketed. This is what I got with factory 150 Core Lokt's.

I load it with Tail Boss in my 308 and 7.62x39. Fairly accurate but I only shoot at 50 yds. 5 shots group size is a bit smaller than a US Quarter at 50 yds. My 168 gr Nosler bullet at full powder can do better, but it is fun at 8 cents a pop. Now they are 10c and I see no point to buy more.

How much is trigger time worth?
Shoot them during off season. Sight in with your hunting load before deer season.
Good to go.
