So the wife picks up a new Springfield xds 9 mm for her birthday just read the recall thread has these issues been fixed and anybody have experience with it good bad or indifferent? She took it and used it for her cpl class she passed. She said it had some issues with loading the magazine and racking a
Full magazine the range officer had Same probelm with the wife's gun said its new needs to be broken in? Never a probelm with my glock. Is his going to be a issue?

It's a fantastic little pistol. I bought mine before the recall and had to send it in. DO MAKE SURE you either get one with the recall fix or send yours in for the fix. XDs's without the fix could fire while dropping the slide or fire two rounds with a single trigger pull (both bad obviously). To my knowledge there are no reports of anyone ever having had this happen to them; Springfield caught it and recalled all XDs's voluntarily.

The recoil spring is quite stiff. It will loosen up some with use but it was still much stiffer after 500 rounds than my Glock 19 ever was. My 9mm Shield was the same (stiff). I am led to believe that all sub compact "pocket" guns like the XDs or Shield will have very stiff recoil springs as a matter of necessity.

I never had any feeding or magazine issues with mine. In fact, I never had a malfunction of any kind with mine.

Captain, congrats to your wife for passing her test and for her new gun.

I've tried the XDS on more than one occasion and just can't get comfy with it. The grip doesn't work for me for some reason. Also, I would always ride the slide stop with my thumb and cause it to not lock open after last round.

I've seen a few issues with other XDS pistols while out shooting with friends who own them. My friend has issues with the tip of Hornady rounds getting stuck on the feed ramp and failing to load.

They are solidly built guns...feel like tanks. The quality seems top notch but I can't get past the few issues I've had and seen with them.

Many folks swear by them and have great success. I couldn't go back to one after owning my Shield. Just a more comfortable gun for me. I do hope our wife has a positive experience from here on out with hers.
