XDM accuracy

I bought an XDm, 9mm, with 4.5 inch barrel about Christmas time and noticed, after I got it home (of course), that the rear sight was shifted a few hairs to the left. It shot left of center during two range trips so I decided to send it back to Springfield for adjustment and zero verification.

I got it back with a packing list and a test target. The target says 25 yards with Federal 124 gr. The 5 shot group measures 2.5 inches at its widest point. The group placement, though, is off center. The center of the 5 shot group is two inches high and 2.5 inches left of the target's central X. The packing list tells me that the "windage was adjusted" and the "sight was replaced to bring POI down". The rear sight is more centered now. If the sight was brought down and adjusted, why is it still making holes high and left? In retrospect, I should have measured my range groups instead of just casually saying: "yep.. she's a lefty".

Is this normal, acceptable placement for this pistol after a voyage to the service center for re-zeroing? Am I too picky and in need of adjustable sights to stop complaining? Should I be happy with it or send it back for them to try again?

I look forward to insights and advice.

Thanks,

Geoff

Springfield's response to my email was quick, by the way. I had a shipping label before the end of that day.

I would just adjust the rear sight yourself, with a punch or rod and hammer, or with a sight pusher. I would not worry much about elevation, but more about windage. I would shoot your pistol at 10yds, several groups, and adjust your rear sight accordingly. Move the rear sight in the direction you want the bullet impact to move. After you get it zeroed in windage, if you aren't comfortable aiming high or low, you should be able to order taller or shorter front sights. Springfield may send you them for free

My brother's XDm required a few taps with a punch to the rear sight when new to bring the POI to the target. It's a very accurate pistol, BTW.
