XD45 Tactical TS vs Glock 21

So, I now have both. They are both big guns!

I bought the Glock on a whim, but I liked it so much I bought an IDPA rig for it and shot it there. Great gun. Then I had a few draw off the table stages and realized that it is just too big for my hand. Accuracy was always good. Hit-ability, my ability to point and shoot quickly, was excellent. Still, overtime, I realized I wasn't gripping it well enough. Also, no lead hurts too.

I had an XD40 that I shoot good, but if is going to be my IDPA and home defense gun, I want a 45. 45 is my bread and butter of handloading. So, I had to go 45.

I selected the XD45 tactical with TS over the XDM, STI and Glock 21 gen 4. I'll post some pics and shooting review after I get it cleaned up.

So if you made a similar choice, what did you get and why?

My why's are:
13 r&d mags
5" barrel
Good XD trigger action
1911 style thumb safety
Easy field strip
Availability of lightweight trigger mod
Good feel in hand
Availability of good sights
Better experience with XD platform over Glock

The gen4 glocks Slimmer grip works for me.
Imho perfect, especially with a 30s as backup, share mags

Glad you guys like your Glock 45's. . .Don't you find then way too wide for CCW? I never could get over my Gen 3 G21's width. . .

I have the XD45 tactical and I've owned the XDM45 full size. I prefer the XDM to the XD. the factory trigger is slightly better and I tend to shoot XDMs better than XDs.

Nope. I carry my G21 frequently. Everyone says they are too wide, but the slide is the same width as the M&P, which I also carry regularly. I also carry Sig P226 or HK USP.

I generally prefer to carry a full size gun. I know many people do not and I can certainly understand that.

When it comes to poly frame, striker fired 45acp's, the XD is still my favorite. I have both the service and tactical and easily prefer either over the G21, regardless of 'generation'. I just hit better and more instinctively with the XD's and I'm sure it's due in part to the big difference in ergonomics. I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of poly frame/striker fired autos but the XD really works for me better than the others I've tried. The XDM is really no more than the XD with a facelift and more aggressively marketed due to the higher mark up, IMO.

Could you pull out the barrels, slide a round in both and compare chamber support ? Let us know if you have time. Thanks

I started with a Sig 220, then a G21SF. If I had to do it over it would be an M&P 45 with the Apex kit.

I currently have a CZ 97b with 'upgrades' and love it but it isn't as reliable as I'd like.

I have both a G21 and a G30s and love them both. I carry the G21 as often as I do the G30s, no problem for me. I have complete confidence in both of them.

The question, it seems, is rather self evident to be subjective. When I first started getting into guns I was a Glock fanboy (out of ignorance.) However, now as a gun ENTHUSIAST I still have favorable preferences towards glocks. As I began to broaden my perspective on ALL firearms as opposed to just glocks I realized the "why" wasn't important. More over, the "how" became important. How am I drawing with this firearm? How am I instinctively shooting with this firearm? How are my shot placements and follow ups landing? To me everything else, now, is just noise. Reliability in many of the firearm manufactures hasn't been an issue for the past 10 years or so. The aftermarket parts are plentiful on most manufactures and things seem to be getting slim everywhere.

When I had my Gen3 21 I wanted to get a Gen4 but wanted to make an informed decision so I began looking at the xd's and m&ps. After giving a good amount of range time to borrowed xd's and m&ps I always gravitated back to the glock. I knew right off that bat that the palm swell on the M&P was going to be aggravating and it only held 10 rounds. I sucked it up and gave it it's due and I performed well with it. The XD was also a performer and I noticed no difference between the regular xd and the over marketed XDM. The only complaints I had was the grip on the frame and the 1911 style grip safety but that had no say over the decision.

After all was said and done the "why" was because I just shot better with it. The grip angle had a lot to do with it. Many manufactures are getting a little too into 1911 angles. Which is fine cause I can shoot a 1911 great in bullseye but not so in draw. My instinctive shooting doesn't agree with it.

Gen4 Glock 21 w/ ZEV trigger, springs, connector. Currently running XS standard dot sights but after firing a G21 with Vicker's sights I will be changing those soon.
