XD40 4" damaging brass issue

Hi all. Im new to this forum. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on an issue im having with my XD. I just started loading my own ammo and have noticed that any brass that has been fired by my XD has 2-3 scratches running from side to side with a gap in between sides. These scratches are deep enough to make me wonder how many times I can load and fire my brass before something goes wrong. They are a short distance from the case mouth and they are always in the same spot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Glad to be a part of this forum:D

If going around the case check the chamber for burrs, if going from front to rear check the mag and chamber.
Rule of thumb is if you can easily catch a finger nail in the scratch then toss them.

Any brass, including factory loaded? If so, yes, check the chamber of your barrell. If there's a problem with the chamber call Springfield.

Look for the brass "wash" on the edge of the ejection port where it's hitting. If it's caused by a sharp edge, then that can be fixed. My SIG P220's ding the brass with noticeable dents (thought not deep scratches) during the ejection process. I tend to ignore them when I reload.

I have 1911's that do the same thing. It's common for a case to make contact with the side of the ejection port, though I'd just as soon not see any marks on them.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your advice. Since I don't know how to examine the chamber, besides checking to make sure it is clean, I will be sending my xd off to have springfield take a look at it. Thanks again

Take the gun down, pull out the barrel and insert a round in the chamber and make sure it seats all the way. Remove the round and see if it is srcatched. Load some rounds in the mag and then remove by hand and see if there are any marks.
The next step should only be done if you feel confident to do it, insert a loaded mag into the gun and cyclic it by hand and see if any marks are left on the brass.
This will tell you where the marks are occuring.
