XD Mod.2 Tactical (5") Reviews?

Hi All,

Looking at picking up an XD Mod.2 Tactical (the 5" barreled 9mm) and curious to hear thoughts from any owners. I own, and have owned, several handguns and currently own an XD .40 and a 9mm PPQ (among many others). I had thought about an M&P Pro but had a chance to shoot one owned by someone else today and wasn't impressed at all (the trigger didn't suit my fancy at all).

So, any reviews from you who own the XD Mod.2 Tactical? I like the old XD 40 I have and find that the trigger on it is very smooth and doesn't have a "wall" before breaking, it just pulls through.

Thanks!

those are a fairly recent release. you're not likely to get many responses. until recently the XD Mod 2 was only available in compacts. the full sized grips just came out a few months ago. this is just a WAG based on handling the compacts but, ergonomics are greatly increased provided you have hands roughly the same size as mine, and the sight picture is a lot better. however, the triggers still are not as good as on the XDMs. when compared to the XDM 5.25 models, the slide on the mod 2 does not have the lightening cuts which is better because there's less chance of debris getting inside the slide, and weighs down the front end for less muzzle flip, but is worse because it weighs down the front of the gun and causes more fatigue. if they sold for the same price as the old XDs I would say heck yes get one, but since most places are jacking up the price to dang near the price of the XDM, I would say to spend the extra couple dozen bucks on the XDM instead.

Thanks. To your point, there's not a ton out there on the 5 inch model yet probably because it's so new. I've looked at the Xdm and the Mod.2, and while I know what features are different I'm not seeing an advantage to the Xdm.

um, better triggers, adjustable grip size, higher ammo capacity, finer sight adjustment... I fail to see how those are not advantages.

I got rid of a few Glocks and an XDM 5.25" (which was a great gun in its own right) a while back and took my time replacing them. While not the 5" model you speak of I chose the Mod 2 4" service model. I found it much more comfortable to shoot than the Glocks....Having average sized hands the Mod 2 fits perfectly. It is almost as accurate as the 5.25 too. For me it's the perfect compromise between size and capacity for a small(ish) carry gun.....which is why the Mod 2 was purchased.

Your will be well served by the Mod 2 if it's anything like mine....A full sized model would make a great range/informal target piece.

I own the full size XDM9 and have no complaints about it, other than having a very large grip. I have recently fired a Mod 2, 4" model that belongs to a friend on a couple of occasions and have to say that I like it quite a bit better. It fits the hand well, the sights are easier to pick up against various backgrounds and it didn't give up anything in the accuracy department. I felt that I was able to shoot it better than the XDM9, and will possibly add one to the stable in the near future.
