X-bolt safety question

the X-bolts have that button on the top of the bolt that allows you to remove the bolt when the safety is engaged. Is this basically analogous to the Win 70 safety's middle position (basically rack the bolt without being able to fire)?

I'm wondering if it simply allows you to eject the round when the safety is on, or if it actually pulls the bolt out, cartridge and all...

Thanks.

The X-bolt's button is similar in intent to the middle position of a Winchester Model 70, but is superior because the separate button unlocks the bolt to allow you to unload the rifle without having to touch the safety. It also allows the safety to be either in Safe or Fire position without the possibility of only taking the safety partway off.
