Wyoming Congressman Cynthia Lummis proposes legislation

On June 5, 2013, my Congressman (she likes to be called "Congressman") Cynthia Lummis introduced HB 2247 to reverse the State Department and allow M1 rifles to be returned from Korea.

On Tuesday U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo) introduced H.R. 2247, the Collectible Firearms Protection Act. The bill reverses a State Department decision to block the importation of historic M1 Garand rifles and M1 carbines from South Korea.

Lummis teamed up with John Tester, D-MT, in 2010 with similar legislation that was defeated in the house. Since that time, Congressman Lummis has written the State Department demanding an explanation for the import ban. The response was that the State Department felt that the rifles could be used for illicit purposes and made to be fully automatic. "
“This is a political stunt on the part of the State Department, pure and simple, while denying the exercise of Second Amendment rights by law-abiding citizens, firearm collectors, and competitive marksman.

I hope we can all send letters of support to Congressman Lummis and our Representatives in Washington. These rifles would be a great addition to our supply of M1s!

..... this to mean that WY is a good state? Are they generally a no-imposition state?

What? I am not following you!

all this means is that Congressman Lummis has itroduced legislation to reverse the State Department ban on importation of rifles from Korea.

I thought they approved the import of the M1s but the CMP was not going to get them.

I guess not, or this legislation would not be needed!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand it is not possible to make an M2 carbine out of an M1 carbine, they are not the same weapon.

No, they can be converted, but it is not a simple task.
Correct. I'd need a registered M2 trigger housing, as well as some other parts not readily available, and the receiver would need to be modified.

As with many other firearms, it could be done, but there's more to it than Joe Bob taking a hacksaw to a part here and there. I hear the "it could easily turned into a machine gun by ____" statement all the time, but in reality, it's just not true.

And I think this is the excuse used by the State Department that has Congressman Lummis so upset. She is a very strong supporter of our 2nd Amendment and deserves our support on H.R. 2247.

She is calling B.S. on the State Department for the very reasons being discussed here.
