Michael Fleming was murdered yesterday at the convenience store where he worked.

His murder will never be known outside the county.

He was white and the alleged murderer was black, so it wont get national press as a "Hate Crime" or a visit from Jesse Jackson.

He was "straight" so the murder wont get national press as a "Gay Hate Crime" or a free trip to Washington for his family. No protests nor candlelight vigels.

He was killed with a knife, and so no editorial will be forcoming in the newspapers about "knife locks" or "Knife Safety", no demands on Congress to register knives.

Many Michael Flemings were quietly killed yesterday, and many quiet Americans should be ashamed.

Apropos to the other thread on the California stabbings, does any statistical website identify deaths by knives only?

My best friend was murdered right in front of his new wife by a man with a knife on their first vacation trip to Florida. This was before carry licenses and my friend, not wanting to break any laws, left his .38 Special at home. His killer was drunk, mean, and fast. My friend died right on the highway close to the Jonesboro, Ga. exit. I used this experience as an example of just how quickly it can happen when I was actively trying to convince/convert anti-gun people of the necessity of being prepared. I once had an anti ask me why my friend didn't "just call the police"? Let's see, dark highway, no phone, bad guy attacking with a hunting knife. Yeah, call the police.
I don't try to convince anyone anymore.

When a person is murdered, does it really matter whether they were white, black or purple?. Or what color the attacker was?

When someone dies, and the family hears this
terrible news, do you think that they are really concerned what color the killer was?

When Colombine went down, was anybody asking what color the perps were?

Almost every mass shooting that we have had in the last 3 years were commited by whites.

I really don't give a damn, what color they were, it just makes me sad that our society is approaching a point of total meltdown.

Get off this bassackwards mentality!

WLM-Just because there are some idiots out there, it doesn't mean that you should lose hope. The easiest way for the antis to defeat us is if we just give up. If we are going to go down at least go down like true Americans...fighting.

No flame intended, but you missed the point of Oatka's post. It wasn't meant to be a color thing. The post meant to illustrate the fact that the victim was just another average guy whose murder will not get national coverage because he was average. There was no black vs. white language in the story at all.

You are right. I sometimes get weary of trying to convince someone who, in the face of overwhelming evidence, refuses to accept any other opinion than the "guns are bad" line that we all hear so often from so many sources. I'll try harder.

WLM, I used to live in Jonesboro, right on Arrowhead Blvd where I19/41 breaks off of 75. Sincere sympathy on the loss of your friend. I was living there when I first decided to buy a handgun. God bless and keep.

Waterdog - I posted the above because I agreed with what I thought the original poster (Toby) was saying. The minority mix and weapon used weren't "newsworthy" by today's standards.

Had it been one of the preferred minority who was killed, and had a gun been involved, the media's selective outrage would have guaranteed wider coverage, with much eloquent hand-wringing about our "racist gun-toting" society.

However, because a white guy was killed by a black (allegedly), and, he was killed with a knife, his death was treated with a big journalistic yawn.

Outside of Fleming's immediate family, evidently nobody but Toby gave a damn.
 
I agree that the color shouldn't be mentioned........but if you take a look in the newspapers, or read news online, you'll see that color is usually mentioned.........when the perp is white and the John Doe black, Asian, Indian etc....
