The Wurstfest in New Braunfels website says no weapons.

But do they actually have 30.06 signage?

Someone says that they check bags or have wands.

I’m going, but after today, no way am I gong unarmed and defenseless.

Anyone have experience lately? Any reports?

I’m chaperoning a group. Staying home isn’t an option. I guess we are going unarmed. They better have good security, but you know what they say about taking responsibility for your own safety.

I always wonder, and I am sure this has been brought up in numerous other threads: If a business or venue is hostile towards LEGAL gun carriers but said business is in a location where the law permits and endorses legal gun possession, can that business remove you from their premises if they found out that you were LEGALLY carrying? I think if they tried to, that would constitute as discrimination or harassment. I am not really sure how this works, because at the same time, it is their business, and they can probably ask someone to leave if they are wearing a shirt or ballcap advertising a particular political candidate that they happen to dislike. This is probably the only thing that is even more complicated than the giant mishmash of local, state and federal ordinances on carrying guns in your vehicle and such.

Well it would be discrimination, but in general discrimination is not illegal. Discrimination by a private person or business is illegal only when made illegal by a statute or court decision.

Would the business or event organizers be liable/responsible if something should happen due to not only the signage but the proactive (wanding & searching) efforts?

In most situations, a private business can refuse you access to their property or refuse to do business with you for almost any reason. The only exceptions are the protected classes spelled out in law. People carrying guns are not among those in any jurisdiction of which I am aware, and are not likely to become one, for reasons both legitimate and not. As a small business owner, I personally do not want to be forced to do business with anyone who shows up; I need to be able to exercise discretion about a lot of factors.
