Don't want to list it for sale here but I'm headed for Cabelas this Thursday and may take it along to see what they'd offer me. It's a Weatherby Vanguard VCS (or VGS) 30-06 with a 3-9 Redfield Illuminator w/Accutrac (and I have the other 3 dials). Rifle is in really nice condition and the scope is clean except for a slight scuff on the front objective bell. The last time it was out of my cabnent was when I had it in Texas 10 years ago and my son shot while there.

Just wondering what it would go for so I know how bad Cabela's offer is? Thanks.

The very last place I'd expect to get a fair offer on a used firearm would be at a typical retail, sporting goods store or gun shop. Most buy low and sell high, that's how they stay in business. If you don't want to sell "on line", an ad in the local paper or posted on the bulletin board of your local gun club or even carrying it around at a decent gun show, will probably garner you a better return for your investment.
I wouldn't expect to get much more than $400.00 for your rifle/scope rig in the condition you describe in the best of circumstances. Good luck!

A friend who owns a gunshop here in Arkansas always said: "Never include the scope with the gun, sell them separate to get top dollar". Seems that when a scope is on the gun people think it is a freebe. Thus, even if someone insisted on selling it as combo to him, he would separate them before resell and make an even nicer profit.

Well, I went to Calbelas and bought the Tikka T3 Lite in .204 this morning. I had the guy in the Library give me a quote on my Weatherby & Redfield - $280 w/scope and $230 without. I brought it home with the T3.

Well, the Vanguards sell new in Walmart for only $350 to $400 (depending on what part of the country you are in) so you can kind of use that as a rough guess.

To sharpen up the guess a bit, new Vanguards were selling for $299.99 last month at my local sporting goods store. It pays to compare before buying. :)
