WSF in a 40

I was given 2 lbs of WSF but have never used it in a 40. From what I have found using 6.1 to 6.5 with 165gr bullets is ok. Does any have any experience with WSF and 165's in a 40?

WSF is my prefered powder for 40. Good speed for the cartridge and not spiky in the pressure curve. I did not shoot a lot of 165s, but my data runs from 5.9 to 6.2 grains with 165 plated FP bullets.

big al, it will work okay for 9mm with the heavier bullets. It is not the cleanest powder and gets pretty dirty with 9mm under 147s. I prefer a little faster powder for 9mm.

I've used WSF in a .40 Browning Hi Power and a Sig P226 with good results. The load was 6.5 gr of WSF with a 155 gr JHP made by Montana Gold Bullets, with a COL of 1.125". Moderate pressure, good accuracy and reliable ejection in both guns. That's 10 grains lower than your 165 gr bullet...be advised! Rod

If I didn't have so many other powders I'd go back to WSF in a heartbeat! Very good in the 40 S&W and 9mm.

357 sig

I have used WSF in my P226 for 147 grain Hornady XPT. I use the WSF for 357 sig and BE-86 for the 40 S&W 165 grain. I have two barrels for the P226 and enjoy swapping and shooting both calibers. The WSF also meters well.

My favorite 40 powder. Using jacketed FP 165 grain bullets, Win cases, CCI 500 primers at a 1.125" oal: 6.0 grains of WSF-970 fps, 6.3-1010 fps, and 6.6 grains of WSF showed 1060 fps in a Glock 23. My load is 6.4 grains for about 1020 fps. For Speer 165 Gold Dot HP's I use 6.6 grains at 1.120-1.123" oal.
