I think the letter explains itself well enough. I'm puzzled by the entire issue to be completely honest.
Here it is:
I LIVE in Clinton, IA. I am a resident of the state of Iowa. I am currently attending Bradley University, majoring in Electrical Engineering. To allow me to attend this school I am currently staying in an apartment in the state of Illinois. I work part-time at a store that sells firearms. It is store policy that I have a FOID card through the state of Illinois so that I can sell guns to customers. As I stated, I live in Iowa, and I enjoy hunting and fishing in Iowa. I can also hunt and fish in Illinois, but pay a little extra to, and that is fine with me. Why isn't it the same way with gun ownership? Why is my Iowa driver's license with a photo of me and all of my information not enough to get a FOID card? I am not a convict, I have a clean record. However, I cannot own a gun or get a FOID card through the state of Illinois. I've contacted the Illinois State Police, they told me there is no way that I can get a FOID card unless I surrender my residency in the state I live in (Iowa) and become a resident of Illinois. I would like to know how this is not violating my second amendment right to bear arms?
Thank you for your time,
Jacob Carlson
