Wouldn't a "commander" style hammer look neat on a J frame?

The prototypes of the Ruger SP series had a burr or Commander style hammer. I saw them at the 1988 NRA Convention in Orlando, FL and was impressed. When they came out with standard hammers, I was less so, and have never owned one. With the Commander hammers they were neat.

Mike think of the "no more hammer bite." These would of course be mocified a la Fosbery so the frame would be coming back. In the interest of pocket firing of course.

Esthetics again - - -

- - - But the ring hammer on a revolver just doesn't LOOK RIGHT to me. Fellow came to a local several months back, showing off his custom handgun work. One item was a short-barreled S&W--Perhaps a M10--with what looked like a LARGE ring hammer spur, like on an old broomhandle Mauser. He offered to perform this bit of craftsmanship for, I believe, $100. The work was very neatly done and so forth, but it did nothing for me. Perhaps with a smaller, Commander-sized ring . . . No, I don't think so. I'm not opposed to the concept. Just not for me.

Best,
Johnny

Hammer bite is a common problem

on J frames with modified prawls. You HAVE skeletonized your prawl haven't you?

The Mark Wahlberg character in Three Kings had what appeared to be a j frame with a ring hammer.

Oh, now there's a recommendation, a loathesome, ill-bred, failed whitebreadrapper, convicted of hate crimes, used a Hollywood prop in a stupid movie.
Nothing perosnal, BigG, just not impressed...

MRFFF GASP COUGH!

(Diet Lemon Coke jetting out nose...)

That wasn't a J-frame. It was a gun called a Thunder Five, which supposedly shoots .45 Colt and/or .410 shotgun shells. Very odd-looking gun with a bad rep for durability.

With all the negative posts here on the idea of a Commander hammer on a revolver, I think I see why Ruger didn't make them a production item. I still like the idea, but not enough to pay $100 to have someone do it to one of my snubs.

"You HAVE skeletonized your prawl haven't you?"

No, no I haven't.

Why SHOULD I?

My J-frames all have fit me wonderfully WITHOUT resorting to defleshing of any sort.
