Would you (opinions)?

Got a question to ponder and I'm looking for a few opinions if you don't mind. I have a browning hi-power, Belgium made (assembled in Portugal in 1994). All original, beautiful glossy blue finish. I like the gun, but not as much as my 1911's and revolvers.
I have an opportunity to trade it even-up for a S&W model 27-2, blue, 6". We have exchanged pictures but have not physically seen each others guns yet, but they both look to be in very good condition.
I'm leaning toward making the trade. Any opinions why I should or should not?

Both are nice guns and I feel your pain with this trade. Just think it through as to what your shooting needs will be. I'm a very big fan of the S&W N- frame revolvers. I use the 9mm's for range guns and they don't rank near as high on my shooting list as the N-frames. But then again I don't own a Hi- Power. Good luck.

I can hear the traders remorse setting in now. Personally I would not trade. Just me now. I have had sellers/traders remorse before and never again.

Yeah, I haven't ever sold or traded a gun. I can't tell you how badly I want to trade my USP in for a 1911 but I won't b/c it was the first gun I bought for myself. There will be opportunities in the future for me to save up money for the 1911, but if I get rid of the USP, I would never get it back.

But, you don't have the 1st gun connection. In any case, I would keep the Hi Power and save up for the Smith. :)

I had a Browning High-Power.

I bought my HK P7M8 before I got the Browning, and I didn't really want to practice with the BHP because it had a different MOA than the P7M8 and I didn't want to mix up my muscle memory. I got rid of it and then I really regretted it.

I wish I still had it.

NO

I had to sell a BHP 31 years ago for food and rent. Have been regretting it ever since. Surely I could have done something else.

That is a hard one. The High Power is a classic and a great pistol. And a good S&W N-frame is also a very good thing to own. I also favor a 1911 as my primary carry gun. If the chose were mine I would keep the High Power and save till I could get another good revolver. You just have to answer one question, Will you be sorry if you get rid of the High Power?

I'm glad I asked for opinions, I'm already thinking I might regret trading the hi-power.......not right away, but eventually. Maybe I should just put it away for a while and see if I miss it, then decide if I should trade. Either way, I don't need to act right now.

I've sold and traded many, many guns
(privately) and what I've learned
is,it's not the dollar value, it's how
much the trade is worth to you.
It's a personal thing,just listen to your
gut.

I really have no need for either the BHP or a Mod 27. But I sure hope someday to buy one of each. The BHP just might be the best 9mm ever made IMO.
Unless your really a revolver guy, I wouldn't sell\trade it. But that's just me, I like autos.

All original glossy blue finish.

You LIKE.:D

Uh,keep it.

Or sell it for the many, many hundreds of dollars it's worth.

It ain't some Browning knockoff.

You already own a classic handgun.

Are you able to readily KICK yourself at a later time?

Use it and you'll understand.

1911's and BHP's complement each other.

therefore, NO.

But your decision.

My oldest friend and I have saying:

"When worse comes to worse, I'll sell everything except the High Power and then rob 7-11s for a living."

Then we laugh, swill down some more beer, and continue watching westerns on TV.

I can't see ever getting rid of my Browning. If you had a HP that was beat, trashed or a problem I'd consider the trade. The 27 is another one of those must have guns for the safe. But a nicely maintained BHP is worth a lot of money. I saw a used one @ J&G for almost $820.00 and it didn't look all the special. It's unanimous, then - keep the Browning, hock a kid or something and buy the Smith.
You can thank us later.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Well spoken sir!

Another scholar and a gentleman! It is the standard by which all other 9mms are judged.

I'm a Smith & Wesson guy. I've got two Model 27's, a -2, and a "pre-27" from 1954. They both wear the classic 5" barrel that my favorite gun writer Skeeter Skelton, prefered.

Having said that, a Browning HP is one of the very, very few guns I would even THINK about trading one of them for.

I wouldn't do it...but I'd think about it. :D

Keep the Browning. But buy the 27.

Look at it this way, while the Browing Hi Power is a fine gun, there are many 9mms that will fill its role. There are not many .357s that match the Model 27, especially the 27-2, made in the days when S&W was turning out their best as a matter of course.

I'd trade in a hearbeat, but then I'm a big fan of the N frame S&W .357 magnum. The Hi Power is more of a one trick pony, in that its a decent hi-cap duty size handgun, with a good feel. Not (most likely) accurate enough for real target shooting, not compact for easy CCW (although many can do it), its good, but it is what it is, classic 9mm duty gun.

The Model 27 with a 6" barrel is as fine a magnum revolver as you are likely to meet. Excellent sights, trigger pull, strong, heavy frame to soak up recoil, and with enough barrel to get most of everything the .357 can give. Also a pussycat with .38 Specials.

Capable of good service for hunting, target, plinking, and no slouch for personal defense, they only thing it isn't is a small, light, compact carry gun. But then, neither is the Hi Power....

I'd do it.
:D

I have exactly that Hi Power ('93 actually) and I've shot the M27 before. They are both high end examples of their kind and very different experiences. I think you'll be much happier if you keep the HP and save up for the M27. I did that, although I ended up with a 686P. Now I'm lusting for the M27 because I love beautiful blue steel and wood grips. I may trade the 686 toward it, but that's apples to apples. BHP vs M27 is apples to oranges.

Get whichever one you want. Probably a relatively even trade in value... Life is too short not to have all the guns you want!!:D

I would probably trade for a Model 27-2. I have one and love it. It's probably a fair trade money-wise; it's just a personal preference thing. BTW, you're not telling me the finish on the Hi-Power is nicer than this, are you?
