Would this grip idea work?

Looking for a "tacky" grip and can't find an after-market grip and the Hogue Handall just doesn't work. Has anyone ever tried painting their wood handgrips with some type of rubberized protectant such as pickup truck bedliner paint or tennis court/driveway sealer? Just a wild, crazy thought....

The immediate downside that I can see is that it would also stick to clothing. Of course it would also collect dirt like nobody's business and be very difficult to clean. It would also stick to whatever case you stored it in.

friction tape

You can buy a roll of friction tape for about $3.00 at some hardware or electrical supply stores.
This is a cloth tape impregnated with a black tacky substance. You can wrap this around any grip { tools, guns, baseball bats, etc.}for a tacky feel.
It will make black marks on your hands, but it will come off when you wash your hands.
It's cheap and easy to replace and /or remove.

Try a bicycle's tire tube. Cut it to size, slip one on top of another as necessary to get the thickness just right. Remove if ineffective... ;)

Just an idea. :D
