ive been looking for a full sized 9mm pistol for target practice and to use in shooting matches (ipda, 2 gun 3 gun etc) and one of the guns Im interested in is the cz 75 class (specifically the clones). Doing research im not having a lot of luck, most of the info i run across is years old. I think i would like a polymer framed gun, with a barrel of 4.25 or greater and capacity of somewhere around 15 rounds. Do i go witness, tangfolio, br? Are there some others i should be looking at? I have no way to test shoot any of these, no range near me have any of the clones so Im having to buy and then see if i like it...thanks

Tanfoglios are world class guns. Very very good. I also like Canik in the best bang for your buck category. The sarilmarz (sp?) are so-so on value but very dependable. Sphinx are excellent but a little pricey.

yeah ive looked at the canik....and yeah the sphinx is a little more then i want to spend. Which model tangfolio do you like? Also i should have mentioned but id prefer a sa/da

I have a canik 120b, excellent pistol. Never had a malfunction, accurate, well made, well tooled, pretty good finish. Excellent value. Highly recommend.

Radny97 pretty much covered the option. The Sphinx is top of the line but very spendy, I probably wouldn't buy one blind. The Tanfoglio Witness P is a good option, Tanfoglios are great guns, with some of their offerings arguably surpassing CZ quality. The SAR B6P is one of the best bangs for your buck out there and a great way to get into the CZ game. My first handgun was a B6P, loved it but eventually upgraded to a "real" CZ.

Used to have both a Tanfoglio Witness P and Sarsilmaz K2P that were both very inexpensive, dead nuts accurate right out of the box and dare I say, had smoother, crisper stock triggers in SA than my CZ's! They were both 17 round capacity since both had full-size grips. Really liked them and only sold them because I had friends who really took a liking to them after putting a few rounds downrange. Not like I can't get another one, or several, down the road LOL.

The Sphinx was definitely top-of-the-line quality and was everything you would expect it to be, but selling it off was probably one of the best things I did, otherwise it would've just sat in my safe the majority of the time.

Here's a very old picture from couple of years ago showing the size of the Sar and Witness on the bottom row compared to my P-01 and pair of P-07's:

I've owned five Witness pistols and there all great guns.I have a Stock 1 in 10mm and a .40 standard in wonder finish and there great.

I bought a SAR BP6 a few months ago. Probably have almost 500 trouble free rounds through it. It is the compact version. Wanting to get the full size version as well. It has to be the best sub $300 pistol out there. Great trigger and great ergos. I also have it is bigger brother the K2 in 45 its been awesome. I also have a witness elite match in 10mm. Awsome trigger and bery accurate but it is steel and single action.

I have owned a Witness P in 10mm and a steel framed witness in 45 ACP. The 10mm worked great, but I had some problems with the 45. I bought it used and think the seller sold it to me to get rid of all of its problems. I would personally go with something actually made by CZ if it were me.

My Tanfoglio clone is one of my very favorite handguns. It was Israeli surplus. I think they called it something like TA90, rather than Witness.

I bought a CZ P09 recently. Unlike the Tanfoglio, it is polymer. It is an excellent pistol.

My FiL also has a very nice CZ75.

I think you will be pleased with whatever version you get. CZ designs excellent pistols.

I always wanted a CZ. Prices are so high now and quality seems to have dropped off relatively too. I got a Canik C-100 and a SD 9 VE at the same time not knowing which animal to choose. Really preferred the Canik quality, and tradition immediately as expected. Much easier to shoot accurately due to the trigger. Handling it safely took some nervous energy at first, since it has no decocker like the PCR and PO1. Once accustomed to the half cock notch manipulation with your thumb on the hammer, it's a real confidence booster. Went for the T 120 shortly for the extra sight radius and mass. As expected it is much easier to control under recoil and accuracy is better. This pistol has tighter tolerances and the sights are right on. Had to drift the C-100 left a nudge. Now it's good. Each has over 500 rounds, more like a 1000. Here's the puzzle: for whatever reason the slide will lock back on each gun occasionally on a loaded magazine. The next round sometimes seems to be slightly forward, nothing persuasive. It's becoming a habit to hit the slide release with my left thumb and keep on pumping ( like a single action army.) Best kind of malfunction to have I suppose. I called Canik about it yesterday. They have no reports of this issue in their data base, but I did find at least one reference on the web. The single action trigger is scratchy and slow to break, so precise target work is tedious to say the least. In all I do like these alloy pistols a lot. Seem to be a decent value. Hope to get to the bottom of the slide issue eventually.

Take a look at the SAR B6P. I've owned at least a half dozen CZ's. The Sar is right up there with all of them. I even sold my CZ P07 in favor of the SAR. I have fired 1000's of trouble free rounds through my Sar handguns. Do some research on them , you'll be impressed. The Sar is going for around $250 new, a fantastic value.
