Would like some help with 1896 krag

I have a 30-40 Krag carbine that was handed down from my grandpa. I've heard people say they can locate what units some were in. serial #315##. Can anyone help with this data or know were i can find it.

Springfield Research service used to allow you to see if your gun is listed before paying. On one of the Trapdoor sites you can post your serial #, but it has to be the whole #, no x's, and members with the Springfield service info will look it up for you. May be something like this for Krag's, check around. Only a small percentage of serial numbers have info available though.
