Would like a review on Colt Govt current model.

I (think) I want to get a new current model 1991 series, long trigger, fixed sights.

I'd like to know from anyone who has shot one how it groups. I'm not expecting match groups. But I'd like to know the appx size group to expect at 15 or 25 yards. Plus how close to point of aim it shot.

Also any eccentricities like feeding issues.

OH YEAH....also any hammer bite issue. The pix I've seen make the grip safetly look longer than the old timers.

I know there are superior 1911s out there but I'm a traditionalist and not intending to break records with the pistol. Just looking for reliable and COLT brand.

Also, I just like Colts. :)

Thanks in advance.

I owned one for a short time. It seemed well built and looked nice. I found the ejection to be a lot more rearward than the S&W 1911s I've owned and the other 1911s (Colts, Para Ordnance, and SIG) that I've shot (I honestly think this particular example needed a trip back to the factory but I didn't do my due diligence and sold it). It was set up for a 6 o'clock hold and I'm honestly not used to that. Couple that with shooting in a terribly cold winter and my admitted lack of bench or bullseye pistol skills and I never really got a great idea of how it shot in terms of absolute mechanical accuracy. I found it generally as good as the other options I've mentioned. I got mine mainly because at the time Colt was running a rebate that essentially guaranteed I'd never lose money on the pistol.

I have a few recent Colt 1911's, including a WWI Repro, Black Oxide. I think they are currently one of the best values in 1911's going. For around $700 a basic Colt Government Model is a great deal, and they are shooters.
