Worried on Blazer ammo bullet setback

Has anyone else had problems or doubts about CCI Blazer rounds?

Recently I noticed that a couple of the 41 mag Blazer rounds ( left in the box and not knocked around ) had their half jacket lead semiwadcutter hollow point bullets collapsed inside the case.

Previous to this, I had no indicators there was anything to keep Blazer ammo from being used for self protection, other than aluminum cases being lighter and requiring a faster push on the extractor rod to push them clear of the cylinder.

210 grain jacketed bullets ( or even 170 grain silvertips ) at 1300 from a 4" bbl are pretty stiff recoiling. The Blazer ammo seems like it would act like a 41 caliber version of the 38 Spl. FBI swlhp+P, but I've not been able to find any chronographed info on them. Hopefully, they might be in the 900-1000 fps range, more likely lower velocity.

So my two questions are if Blazer is good enough to trust when TSHTF and how fast do the 41 versions really go?

I believe that CCI ammo is designed for practice ammo (i.e. low cost) and not for self defense (i.e. proper penetration and expansion).

I don't trust the stuff at all. I bought one box of the stuff to try it out and one of the rounds actually had a cracked and torn case. If an obvious bomb like that can get past their quality control...

I had one let the bullet slip forward in the case and break my 1894 Marlin's innards. I'll never trust/use them again.

I have been having problems with them in my 1991a1.I have a freind who had problems with them in his springfield .45. I'm going to shoot what I have left and go to another brand.

FWIW, Blaser works very well in .357mag (SW686, though extraction is a little stickier than with brass once the gun heats up) and in 9x18 Makarov. I havehad zero malfunctions over about 300 rounds used.

I've used the .45 ACP blazers in the 200 grain hollowpoint in my Kimber with no problems. Actually in the 3 or so boxes I put through I have had 100% reliability. I have also used about 3 boxes of 25 ACP in an Baby Browning without any missfires, though their were a couple of jams that were probably the pistols fault and not the ammo. Maybe I've just been lucky.

I am starting on my second case of Blazers in .40(165 gr.), and have found it to be great, reliable, and by far the cleanest ammo I have ever used.

In fact I prefer it to the Lawman, which is just a little more expensive, because the Blazer has a TMJ and uses cleanfire primers, and I shoot at an indoor range quite often.( A TMJ, or total metal jacket, jackets the entire bullet, even the base, thereby reducing the amount of airborne lead generated while shooting.)

I've never used it 'cause I reload but I know of two indoor ranges in the Houston area that have banned blazer ammo. They both have blown up revolvers on the wall to justify their bans.

I love the stuff. My Wife hoses it through her 9mm and .45, and my .45 shoots it acceptably well too. Some guns don't like it, but they're few and far between.

Everyone has horror stories about blown up this or that. Once I had a truck that caught on fire. I still ride in that brand of vehicle.

Blazer ammunition has come a mile from where they used to be. Try a box and see for yourself. The bullets are identical to that loaded in brass.

Good shooting,

Slim
