Worldviews in conflict.

I think the battle that is now being waged against the Second Amendment is rooted in a conflict of two basic worldviews. The Judeo/Christian worldview was the prevalent one of our society when our Constitution was written. This view sees man as sinful and in need of redemption. Many of the writers of the Constitution were not Christians, but they had a Christian world view since they were influenced by Puritanism, and accepted Biblical principles as a basis for law. The worldview that is now prevalent in our universities, schools, and government is a secular humanist worldview that sees man as without a sin nature and the evil in the world caused by man's environment and circumstances. Although these things do influence us, we all have a free will and can say yes or no to the temptations around us. The humanists see the gun as an evil influence that needs to be removed, just like they see poverty as an evil that, once removed, will allow the goodness of man to shine forth (why do rich kids do drugs?). Our nation's Founders did not see guns as evil, but as necessary for control in society. So, they gave us the right to protect ourselves from those who do not say no to temptations.

If the evil in the world is caused by mans environment and circumstances, then I reserve the right to keep my environment as free from evil as possible, by being in a position to defend myself from evildoers, under circumstances which allow me the option to protect myself without waiting for other sources of protection. Those circumstances require that I be armed, in accordance with my Second Amendment rights.

When guns are outlawed, I will be an outlaw.
