Working on a muzzle brake (knock off Roedale)

Confidence? Medium... medium high. The only hard rule I've found in my searching is that bullet clearance needs to be in the 0.01-0.02" range; other than that, it sounds like anything goes for experimentation. The bore diameters on the Roedale part are hard to distinguish judging on their pictures! :) However, another member on another forum made a knock-off for himself and reported positive results. It's something to do more or less...

Comments / suggestions? I don't really want to thread my barrel, keeping the option to take it off when I want is appealing.
 
Nice looks great, just not sure that it would hold on larger calibers. I extend the base another 1/4 or 1/2 inch and use four bolts to hold it on the barrel.

Just a thought.

My gunsmith builds muzzle breaks and compensators as a primary income.

During a conversation last year, he went into elaborate detail about how he settled on the basic design he uses. What stuck with me the most:
He said the baffle angles have to be within a window of 3 to 7 degrees off perpendicular (83 to 87 degrees, or 93 to 97 degrees) to bore axis, or they're completely useless. It's just a flash hider, if the angles are wrong. The angles can be changed once you get away from the bore axis, but the initial deflection face (for gases) is absolutely critical.

Take it for what it's worth.... at this point, it falls into hearsay territory; but I thought I'd share.

However... He stopped making clamp-on breaks after he discovered the "butter zone". Now, he only sells threaded versions. Methinks he blew too many into the weeds.
