When you hear the word machinegun, what is the first thing that comes to mind ?
For me, it is a WWII GI armed with a Thompson.

"Machinegun" brings an MG-42 to mind, but "submachinegun" will always be a 1928A1 Thompson for me.

If you say subgun the Thompson probably comes to mind first.
