Word Around The Camp-Fire About Browning

I was on the net, and came across a page on the Browning Hi-Power and since it was the newest updated item I checked it out. It said the Browning will continute making the Hi-Power except only in the Mark III configuration. Is this true, or is it just a rumor? I would like to know cuz I'm so mad at Browning right now about the Hi-Power.

Silver Bullet,

In response my e-mail to them and in their announcement at the ShotShow, Browning confirmed the HiPower would be continued into 2000, but they did not mention anything about it being only the MarkIII. I'm most interested, too.

Do you have the url where you saw this info?

And, BTW, why are you angry with Browning?

Browning is only responding to markey realities. Too many choices around today and too few people interested in a SA 9mm/40SW. Lets not forget that the clones have also cut into Browning's market. I know for thepurist this is blasphemy, but I know of at least two potential Browning customers that bought FEG clones instead. They're half the price and so far just as strong. All in all I don't think Browning's decision as a PC one more than it was a response to demand.

So many pistols, so little money.

I just put a Hi-power on layaway, but went to gunshow this weekend and saw a real nice FEG for $194 so I bought it. The outside was well done with a couple of small machine marks. Deep blued and nicely polished. The inside finish was not so nice. Had to work on the trigger to smooth it out. Won't drop the mags with slide locked. Working on that. Put 200 rounds through it and went to clean it. Guide rod assembly had failed. $30 for a new one. The ejector is so loose it rattles when you shake it. Now the good news. Ate every thing I fed it. Very accurate for out of the box. Outshot my friends HP with target sites and custom match barrel at 10 yards. Functioned flawlessly with the above mentioned problems. Typical (former)eastern block weapons. I'm having fun playing with it. P.S. the HP is still on layaway.

Frankly, if you don't have 13rd mags for the Hi-Power, its a rather large 10+1 9mm, like the Sig P226 and Beretta 92 series.

I love the HP, bought 3 in the last 7 months! But, I can understand why buyers are choosing pistols like the Glock 26, Kahr K9 and other smaller weapons of their smaller size. With CCW in most states, these smaller pistols are easier to conceal.

My one hope after this years run of Hi-Powers is that FN will market it themselves. Their new FortyNine pistol may be its replacement, though.
