Wooden jag for cylinders

I discovered a good method for cleaning the crud out of the cylinders after shooting 38 spl in the .357 Mag. An oak dowel of the size that just fits into the cylinder. A bit of gun cleaner on the end, back and forth and turning and the crud is gone. This seems to be more effective than a stainless steel cylinder brush and will be less likely to scratch anything. The next smaller size dowell with a patch and you have a finishing tool. Cut the tip off the dowel periodically since it will swell some from the oil. Any down side to this unorthodox cleaning tool?

Well yeah if you are not careful. You could end up just pushing the fouling down to the beginning of the throat (that step in the chamber) and pack it in the recess.
