WOODEN GRIPS for the Beretta 92S??

Friends,

Once more, I've found a GOOD DEAL on the Italian Police surplus "old model" 92S
(259.oo with free S&H)

Frankly, I don't like either the stock plastic grips or the Pachmayr. rubber ones either.

Oddly enough, just this AM, I saw another EOF like me open carrying a 92S with BEAUTIFUL smooth wooden grips. - The grips LOOKED like rosewood & had lots of "figure".

I asked him where he got them, as I hadn't seen any like them & he said, "I bought them in Europe years ago & I don't remember who made them."
He paused & then said, "I think I remember that they were made someplace in eastern Europe. But maybe not.- It's been near to 20 years since I bought the pistol."

Do any of you have a source for NICE, well-made, wooden grips for the "old-school" 92S??
(I looked about on "the Worldwidewierd" & found nothing even similar to his grips.)

ALSO: Do any of our members know how the pistols issued to the Italian Carabinieri are "marked" OR if their handguns have "department identity markings"??

yours, sw

I don't know of any readily-available. (I also have a 92S.)

Some custom grip makers may be interested in the job, if you can send yours in as a pattern.

My FiL has one of those Italian police trade-ins. He would LOVE some rosewood grips for them. If anyone knows anything about getting some, please post some info. They would be the perfect birthday or Christmas gift for him.

tallball,

I believe that "FrankenMauser" has a good plan. = I'll look about & see if any grip maker wants to tackle the job.

IF I'm successful, I'll PM you with the info.

I'm sure someone offers them premade. I can make them but I usually do 1911 grips. Ive done revolver grips as well, but most folks dont want to pay what they are worth. 92 grips are a little more time consuming and less in demand, and hence a little more than 1911 grips.

Be sure what you find is good for your version of the 92 and be sure you have the option to return if they don't fit. I bought some Beretta factory style walnuts for my compact and a round inletting was too small on one grip. I could attempt to enlarge it but it would require patience and skill and the wood is so thin you best get it right first try. Found out that it was for an earlier 92 type I think. Frankly I think the black factory grips are flawless and not unattractive unlike some factory grips that look like made for a toy.
