Wood stock glue?

I'm replacing the plastic forend tip of my Remington 700 BDL with a Maple forend tip. The guy I got the wood from said I should use a glue called
"5 Ton." Only I can't find it anywhere.

Anybody know anything about that? And if not, what is a good glue for stock work?

Tryy "Gorilla Glue", available at your local Joe Homeguy store. To use it well, you should mask-off the areas adjacent to the bondline where you do not want glue to stick or overflow. This stuff is water and environmentally-resistant, but it will make a "foam" where it is used on wood.

The good news is that you can sand it and stain it like wood. The bad news is that you need to wear gloves to use it, since it cures with ambient moisture, and your skin is an abundant source of same. However, the resulting bond is very tough, and should require no further attention.

Cure time is relatively slow, so clamping is a must. Also, you should use a film of adhesive thin enough to only change the color of the bonding surface--and apply to one side of the bondline only, since this stuff will expand to fill gaps.
 
I would have to advise against Gorilla Glue. It expands as it cures, and it absorbs moisture to do so. In my opinion it has no place in stock work.

I've used it extensively in repairing furniture, as well as on a couple gun stocks. It get a bad reputation, because people don't use it right. There's 2 keys: Wet the wood before you apply it, and clamp it TIGHT (which can be difficult with irregularly shaped objects.) It will "foam up" but is easiy removed, and will take finish much like wood. And some of the places I've used it (for example the braces for chair seats) are under alot of stress, and it works great.
 
Acraglass, Gorillia Glue, J-B Weld, Hot Glue used them all and interchangale as to glue broken stocks togather or gluing on forend tips.
