Wood coloring changes pre-finish

I've been watching my newly sanded gun blank darken where I've sanded. I decided I'd learn more about the chemical changes it's undergoing. I found this neat article. I thought I'd share it.

What you see on the outside isnt always what you get on the inside. Seems a blank tends to be a little darker once the shell has been broken. Dont know why, or have an answer but with the experince ive had with wood, its almost a given. Walnut that is!

I don't know if you remember how tan it was before, but it's darker now.

Sir:
As you finish out your wood put water on it and dry it with a torch - sand with finer paper time after time - get all the whiskers off and I suppose it changes color some.
