won't fire

I have a taurus millenium in 40 SW and have begun to have a new problem. When I pll the trigger, the pistol doesn't fire consistently. It will dimple the primer a little, but not enough for the cartidge to fire. If I continue to pull the trigger it will eventually dischage, but very inconsistently. I have cleaned the gun completely and oiled every part I can think of. Any suggestions?

Am no gunsmith nor expert but......

Seems that the hammer is not falling hard enough (perhaps weak hammer spring)
or firing pin is damaged or gummed up and needs removal, inspection and cleaning or replacement.

Perhaps somebody else will post a more intelligent answer for you, I saw that you had no answers as yet and thought maybe you might check those two items and I hope that you cure the problem and etc.

info

You might have a sliver of brass stuck in the hole the firing pin resides in. If this is the case, the hole needs to be chamfered with a sharp knife at about a 30degree angle.

What happens is the sharp mouth of the hole can shave off a sliver of the case as the shell is forced up into the chamber when the slide goes closed.

Other than that, the previous post about the main spring or checking the firing pin to make sure it isn't broken would be my next bet.

fixed the problem

It seems that I have fixed the problem. Being the over zealous gun cleaner that I am I overlubed the firing pin mechanism. Over time more and more oil was caught in the space containing the pin and when struck by the hammer would have to compress the oil to fully drop and fire the round, when clean the gun works great.
