madcratebuilder,
Your picture reminded of the hunting partner I had during the late '50s -- yes, that was a long time ago.
My parents had me reducing the local bird population during the winter months in the San Joaquin Valley. I was issued a Daisy lever action air rifle and steel BBs. One had to be closer than about 15 feet to both hit and get small penetration on those tiny birds (finches if I recall correctly). The chore was made a little easier because the Pyracanthus (Firethorn) berries ferment on the brush. The birds get a little tipsy when they eat them...
My partner "Ming Tarzan" the Siamese cat, learned that whenever that Daisy came out of the closet, a bird was sure to be available soon. He would stay close until the shot. I never had to worry about collecting dead birds or chasing down wounded ones...
BTW, does your 'hunting partner' wear earmuffs -- methinks the Grendel is a tad noisy, but would probably do a good job on the local mouse population. Good practice for the deer and elk!
Happy New Year!
