Air Marshals Arrested On Drug Trafficking Charges

HOUSTON -- Two air marshals were arrested in connection with using their positions for drug trafficking, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

A tipster told FBI agents that the men, whose names were not released, were buying and selling drugs as they flew around the country as air marshals.

The federal government hired thousands of air marshals after Sept. 11, posting the undercover, armed agents on board random airplanes.

Because they carry guns, the marshals bypass metal detectors and X-ray machines.

The air marshals arrested Thursday were scheduled on an overnight flight, possibly to Las Vegas. They were arrested before making it to the airport.

Agents searched the northwest-side home of one of the men. The search warrant, which details what was found, is sealed.

Both men worked with other law enforcement agencies before becoming air marshals, sources told KPRC. One of them was a Drug Enforcement Administration agent until 2002, when he joined the air marshals.

The men's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.

No drug prohibition, no quick buck to be made by corrupt officials.

No quick buck, more officials doing their ACTUAL JOB.

More officials (like air marshalls) doing their actual job, fewer people shot for not taking their medicine and more loons stopped from opening an exit door on a taxiing aircraft.
 
Prohibition=violent crime.

Nothing to do with any of the three, its only about getting drugs and being free to use them. Nothing else.

No, it's about hiring armed criminals to "protect" disarmed "suspects" (us). How much might we assume these creeps made from drug trafficking? How much would they have charged to allow the take-over of a commercial airliner...I guarantee, if the charges are true, they have their price for a hijack also.

Is this type of abuse of public trust and authority not worthy of special sentencing? If we can charge a kid who beats up on another kid with a Hate Crime, solely beause of the other child's color, surely we can see our way to charge these two with High Treason.

If I was a defense lawyer, every case that had the names of these guys on it for the past decade would be raw meat for appeals.

Is this type of abuse of public trust and authority not worthy of special sentencing? If we can charge a kid who beats up on another kid with a Hate Crime, solely beause of the other child's color, surely we can see our way to charge these two with High Treason.

Take a breath Rich, "High Treason" requires a direct attempt to over throw the government, mostly in times of war or by being a spy while a citizen of the country. Special sentences? I thought thats what you didn't like about "hate crimes". I am for one standard for all not "special" for those the government does not like right now for political reasons.

Wildcard is correct about using thier arrest and hopfully conviction in appeals but even then the defense will have to prove some connection and illegal activity to use it to get their clients off.

High Treason is NOT to strong a word

Let's not forget that it's these kind of events that dragged us into Iraq. It didn't take a country, it took 20 coordinated hijackers with box cutters.

We live in a new world of consequences.
 
Cases might not be overturned. But I can assure you, each case that these guys handled will be looked at, past and present.

I'm for "one standard", too. But, as is being argued by many in another thread, "The Law is The Law". If we can have a "Hate Crime" Law which increases punishment based on the victim, certainly we can raise the ante for Federal Officials who engage in acts directly counter to this Nation's War on Some Drugs. If we're in a "War" and you're aiding, abetting and actively "fighting" on the side of the "Enemy", it's called Treason....no more of a leap of logic than accusing my child of a "Hate Crime" simply because the kid he punched in the mouth happens to be on somebody's "Protected List".

That, to me, would certainly send a message of "Single Standard". Then, when I'm King, we could expand the "single standard" to Politicians. The Capitol Building would be empty inside of 3 years.

Throwing out cases? You bet they will. Any case these guys had been key to is now up for grabs. A reasonable man can only wonder how many people had been set up and planted for personal gain.
