women shooters

just curious how many of the shooters on this forum are women or are younger than say 25. perhaps the best way to beat the gun control freaks is to get more young and women shooters involved. what do you think? BTW my wife and kids are involved in the shooting sports. for us it is a great family activity

Do your kids know any kids who might like to shoot? If so, talk to and invite their parents to go along with you.

If you go regularly to a commercial range, have you talked to the owner about reduced rates for kids/students/women? And fliers and posters to that effect?

If you're part of an IPSC or IDPA club, do you ever put on "just for fun" kids' or women's events?

Bug your kids' school principal as to, "How do you teach gun safety? Guns exist; what are you doing so that kids don't act stupid?" Sandbag, of course. You don't have to tell him of your own knowledge and actions--at least not right off. Just be a concerned parent.

So here's a start.

I'm only a guy but I turn 22 next week. Guess that makes me young. I have also converted my fiance and my little sister, ages 22 and 20.

Let's see,

My 5 year old is going to be a woman and she shoots. The 5 year old we car pool to "school" with is a boy, but he now has a 22 also. Next week I'm taking both the parents of two kids in her sminning lessons shooting (on has shot shotgun a couple of times, the other not at all). Also next week taking the fellow across the street shooting Z(trap, first time), he also has a 5 year old, (who would like to go shooting with my daughter...). And finally, today I agreed to meet with an eigth grader who is very intersted (and his parents of course, who by the way have no experience).

I'm not working a lot right now, and this is all just kind of happening - almost every week.....

Cheers!

The only problem I have with women shooters is that they outshoot us. Now I think we should seriously consider banning women from the range. It's embarassing and it's completely unnecessary.

If they would just fetch beer and bring ammo and quit ... aw, heck.

My mother, on any given day, could outshoot my father and I together. Ruger .22, Rem Model 11 12 ga, 7x57 Sporterized Mauser, anything she picked up! But especially that Ruger.

Dad wouldn't take her out anymore. Neither would I. So, she learned how to out fish us. Jeez!

it's good to see that not all of us that are into guns are men. I shoot IHMSA they have a class for jr shooters. that is a good idea . I also am a scout master and take them shooting when I can it is one of the more popular activities I do.

Funny, my mother used to go hunting with my father when they were first married. They would go rabbit hunting with .22s. Mom had an old Springfield Model 12 (I think--single shot, hammer you had to manually pull back, etc) Dad had a Remington 550 autoloader. Mom would hit just about anything she could see, while Dad had his problems (he attributed it to his needing eyeglasses but not knowing he did, and that his Remington had a bulge in the barrel about 3" from the muzzle where he had an obstruction shot out)

I'd tell a few whoppers how Dad used to bag whitetails with the .22 but nobody would believe how he did it. Not exactly 100% legal, but this was during the depression/WW2 era in a really depressed part of the country. He was hunting for meat to feed the family (he was a young teenager at the time.) There were not any hunters coming around at this time due to the war, the deer population was out of control, and the Game Control Officers tended to look upon his sort of activity as a non-violation.

I am a woman, of 34 years. Several of my female acquaintances at home are in the army (which is there voluntary for women) and enjoy shooting.

I have to second sensop oppinion that women have a good chance of out shooting us. I introduced my wife to IHMSA. about the second year she shot we were at a state shoot I shot 4 events she shot 1 her one score beat all 4 of mine and as I shot my last shot she did a victory dance in my face. so much for my tough guy image. while I think it is a good idea to get the women shooting be prepared to be humbled!
