There is so much wrong with story... from what she did, to what she did it with (look closely), and how it's been reported as to headline "fact".....

I'm just shaking my head.

Let's guess as to what is all wrong with that photo.
1) It's a pellet rifle, not a Sniper rifle.
2) Her face / eye is way to close to the scope for an experienced shooter.
3) Covers on scope.
4) Looks like a $50 Walmart scope.

Anything else?

I really hate when people pose for pictures with their weapons post-incident. yes, a terrible story and terrible Fox reporters that obviously don't study the subject, but probably relatable to "normal" people.

correct me if I am wrong, that is an AIR rifle, right? kind of hard to notice at first with the faux bolt.

It is a PCP rifle available up to .25 caliber I believe. A bit more than a Red Ryder.

I have a scope with translucent caps. I think the front is yellow. Not positive on why they did it, but it can be fired reasonably accurately with the caps on.

Her face is close, but if all she has experience with is a low recoil air gun, then it may be how she shoots.

$50+TAX. Minimum.

Not the best reporting, but also not the worst, and most of the bad comes from the subject.

The rifle is a Benjamin Marauder. The bolt is not a faux bolt. It comes in .177, .22, and .25 caliber and operates at up to 3000 psi. The .22 can come out at 900 fps or so.

I kept

I found this bit amusing. SO she scared off some punks with a pellet gun?! Good for her. Sure, she made a host of tactical errors, and it could have gone very badly for her, had the intruders been different people, not something to recommend, but its still kind of funny.

An obviously highly excited woman, with a GUN yelling I can shoot you, my husband said so!!! :D:D:D

I would certainly make my self elsewhere, and in a hurry! :D

That rifle is not some 400 fps 177 pellet gun. It's a serious air rifle.

Yes, the scope caps are still on the scope. It's obviously a posed picture. The scope is set a bit too far to the rear; but you can probably get away with that on a PCP airgun.

I can't tell whether the scope is "cheap" or expensive by the picture; however, even an inexpensive scope can be very effective with that rifle - it's not like a springer that will tear up cheap (non-airgun) scopes.

The biggest problem with the story is that the lady left her home and threatened to shoot the burglars as they were running away. Obviously if she had shot them, that would not be good for her. The second biggest problem is using a single-shot air gun to defend yourself and your home.

I would not want to get shot with an air rifle...

Well I have been in an episode of juvenile misbehavior.... It was pretty serious leg wound for me. Luckily it was a leg

I see cops on various documentary shows threatening to shoot people as they run away. They never do. It just seems to be an idle threat to hammer home the point that the bad guy is in real danger. The cops do it to try to get people to stop. Homeowners do it to scare away folks. I wonder if the correct message is ever really getting to the bad guys???

Scopes aren't legal in J/ROTC Marskmanship Competitions. Only Diopter sights. Which are absolutely terrible and inferior in every way to even the simplest of leaf sights. Thats my opinion though.
