Wolff Springs and trigger job for SP101 .357 3"

Just thought I'd provide some feedback on the Wollf spring kit and the Ruger SP101 .357 trigger. I picked up a new SP101 .357 3" snubbie this year, and I really like the gun. This is a solid, heirloom-quality gun. The trigger out of the box was decent, but it was certainly stiff. I can report that after having my Smith replace the trigger and hammer springs with the Wollf kit, the trigger is really, really good. Others have reported that the SP101 lends itself well to a bit of trigger work, and they are quite right. I put 100 rounds through the gun to test it, and not a single light strike. I would recommend this approach to any SP101 owner.

I did the same to my SP101 when I had it. made the trigger pull super sweet.

I had the rosewood boot grips on mine. loved it like that.

I installed a Wolff 9# trigger spring and a 10# hammer spring on my SP101 3" .38 Spl. and could not be happier. These old hands could not manage the factory springs. Also installed a Hogue rubber grip because my large slender hands left my pinkie in the air with the factory grips. The hammer "wobbles" a slight bit but I see no need to install side shims as others have done.

Face it: the SP101 3" is not the best carry gun: it is heavy/robust and not the best carry .38 so I use it for home defense for my wife with Hydrashok 129 gr ammo. My 1911 AMT Hardballer with a Clipdraw (don't laugh: it has been throated and feeds all manner of HP ammo, is stainless, and doesn't need a holster) is slim enough that it does not print under a heavy shirt and I cannot say the same for my SP101 in its current configuration. As a revolver it is too fat for CC, especially with an IWB holster.

Well, AKexpat, to each his own. Right now my main carry gun is my S&W Shield, but I sure don't carry it IWB. In fact, I cannot understand how anyone can handle the discomfort of carrying *any* handgun IWB, so truly, "to each his own."

While my SP101 is not presently in my carry rotation (in California Orange County we are only allowed to designate three (3) specific handguns on our CCW license) I contemplate putting it there in the future.

Anyway, the trigger on the SP101 after the trigger job is exactly what I wanted for CCW. Stiff enough for safety, but super smooth for accuracy.

Frivolous U.S. law suits have cause all firearms makers to ship with poor triggers.
Just changing the springs in any firearm can do wonders for the trigger pull. Better to do the whole trigger job and polish(No files or rotary tools with stones) all mating surfaces.
