I did some googling on this topic after reading this article and it looks like we have another hotly contested debate here.
Living in Texas I really don't have a dog in this fight(pun intended), but It seems to me that we have either introduced or re-introduced a species that with no natural predators and full federal protection are doing quite well, thank you very much. Well enough to have made some two-legged enemies in that region.
We have one extreme, to keep them fully protected, and the other extreme, to eradicate every single one. Of course the best way to handle it would land somewhere in the middle.
I think some managed hunting will not only lower some population numbers but might also endear the species to the locals to a certain extent. At least those that enjoy hunting.
I'd love to hear from those that live in that region and get some first hand reaction to the wolf situation.
