Witness Decisions

I've decided I want an EAA Witness, having a hellava time deciding on wich one and what caliber. Let's hear some pros & cons about 10mm/45acp, full sized/compact, polymer/steel, ported/unported. The full size feels better in my hand, only thing I don't like is the slide release - just out of thumb reach. I reload, prefer the economics of lead for practice & plinking, can't carry concealed in this state (yet).

SK: In the last 6 weeks my shooting partner and I have each purchased a Witness. His is chambered for .40S&W and has the Wonder-Finish. Mine is a 9mm and is finished in blue. Both weapons shoot and feel great. No problems with either one. Both guns are full-size and we have around 500 rounds of my lead reloads through each at this point. Outstanding weapons for the money IMHO. Know what you mean about the slide release on the large frames. I've got small hands and I can't get to the release on the .45 Witness one of my club members let me fire last month. Of course, I can't reach the release on my Para LDA either, and I love that gun. Guess it's just a matter of taste. If you really like the large frame Witness, you'll learn to get along with the release. Maybe someone makes and extended release for the Witness. Anybody heard of one?
When it comes to which finish is best, I say go with the one you like. My blue finish is good, with out too many flaws. My partners Wonder-Finish is really nice as well. My next Witness will be a .40S&W with the Wonder-Finish.

Hello. Over at shooters.com on the handguns board, there is a guy named Richard who knows quite alot about the Witness pistols. Best.

I have two Witness 10mms, a Compact and a Full size. THey are great guns, and excellent bargains.

They are very reliable.

My main complaint is the sights, I've been too busy with other projects to get a proper set of aftermarket, low-profile sights put on them.

Own two small frames, one large frame. Run 9x19, 9x21, 38 Super, 40S&W, 41AE, and 45ACP.

Superb and reliable in 9x19, 9x21, 38 Super, 40S&W, and 41AE.

I recommend: steel frame, full size, 9x19 or 10mm.

(I'll be acquiring a 10mm shortly)

SK,

I agree with WESHOOT2. Superb pistols!

The compact .45's do not feed 200g SWC's reliably, but handle everything else.

On all Witnesses up the recoil spring 2# in rating... as they are all a bit under-sprung. This is probably in deference to the reduced slide purchase (internal rails)and various other engineering and design features. A 16# Wolff works exceptionally well in the 9x19. This action will also reduce any slide/frame battering and insure better function.

Brownells offers several fine rear sights.

Hogue sells "drop dead beautiful" wood grip panels.

The slide release is no problem. The trigger on non competition frame models will normally smooth-up with use.

As to accuracy and reliability, these fine guns shoot right along with my Sigs and 1911's ...and they probably are of a better design.

Enjoy your Witness(es)...they win IPSC for a reason!

Regards,
Bill

Put a 10mm compact with the wonder finish on layway today. The dealer didn't have any of the ported ones, said he was having a hard time getting them. Just missed a .45 carry comp, someone was walking out with it as I was walking in! The big dilemma now is do I trade my Ruger P95. Great gun but doesn't fit my hand real well.
