Witness 10mm's & Magazines

Looks like I am finally going to buy that Witness 10mm! The dealer I have been working with got a line on a full size in Blue for $299..can't pass up that price! Now my big questions are:

1) Where can you get extra magazines for 10mm? Only from EAA? Have seen 9mm, 40S&W, and 45ACP advertised by ProMag, USA Mags, etc....but nothing that references 10mm. Any hints out there? And how much is a reasonable price?

2) What are the recommended "initial upgrades" for a good shooting Witness? Recoil spring? Firing Pin Spring? Trigger Spring? Polish the feed ramp?

3) Anyone have any bad experiences that I should consider before making the commitment on this Witness 10mm?

I appreciate you feedback. Told my dealer that I would give him a definite answer by this Friday. I can finally afford to own a 10mm. Maybe a Glock 20 next, then start searching for a used Delta Elite and/or used Smiths.

Try www.cnninvestments.com. They should have factory mags. Also check www.cheaperthandirt.com. EAA is too high if you buy directly from them. For non-factory mags the Promags are good. I have 2 of their hi-caps, and they work well.

I changed to a Wolf 18lb recoil spring. The kit also included a firing pin spring. You sure notice the difference racking the slide, and the brass doesn't fly all over creation.

Oops, my hi-caps are for my 9mm. I haven't yet found hi-caps for the 10mm.

Also, it's too hard to get a 10th rd in, so I just load 9.

From what I've found out (I got a Witness a few months ago) you're NOT going to find high-capacity magazines for the Witness 10mm, as it was introduced after the mag restrictions came into place in 1994.

Mike, I even emailed about 6 Tanfoglio dealers in various South American countries about 10mm hi-caps and caliber conversion kits. None responded.

CDNN has a few caliber kits but none for the full size 10mm. Would be nice to switch to .45 or .22 for $130.00 or so.

Definition of HiCap

I was actually talking about the standard 10rd magazines. I have seen 45acp, 40S&W, and 9mm advertised by aftermarket magazine manufacturers, but have not seen 10mm. Do you have to go straight to EAA for the 10rd mags?

1) www.ammoclip.com has mags for like $34.

2)I added a 20lb. Wolff recoil spring to mine,it also comes with a firing pin spring so I put that in too. I polished the feed ramp also (I do that to everything),that and lots of shooting to smooth out the trigger pull a bit(which it did) is all mine really needed.

3)Mine isn`t very reliable with the super hot Corbon 180gr.Penetrator JSPs,they creep front in the mag and engage the slide stup after a few rounds and it`ll often fail to lock the slide back on the last round with that load. I`m gonna try Wolff +power mag springs. BTW I`ve tried every other 10mm load I can find and they all work 100%

Mine is a full sized in Wonder Finish and I love it. It`s not as smooth or quite as accurate as my CZ75 but it`s still pretty good and it`s a blast to shoot. Unleashing round after round of .357Mag+ level power out of a carryable auto is just too cool! :D It`s suprisingly easy to control too, the recoil and muzzle flip are brisk but managable. Big fun for the money! Marcus

Thanks for the Feedback

Thanks for the feedback on the Witness. Guess I'll go ahead and place my order. For $299, if nothing else, I would make a good paper weight. Saw a used Witness yesterday in 38 super....the dealer wants $400 for it. Box stock with no extra mags. Definitely reinforced the price on the new 10mm! I'll let everyone know my impressions after I get out to the range.

Hi jakester; I bought a blued 10mm Witness a while back. I must say, I'm really impressed with this pistol and the calibre is an absolute blast to shoot. I think your price is a good one.
When you bring it home take it apart and lube it real good. Mine was kind of "dry" inside. I lubed it and it hasn't choked yet. I normally don't "break in" a pistol with hollowpoints but that's all I had (a box of PMC 170 grainers). Didn't skip a beat.
I believe this 10mm Witness is "the bargain" in the pistol marketplace right now. I bought an extra mag from www.cheaperthandirt.com the day after I got it. Well, I've discovered a whole new calibre (for me) and a great pistol for the money. Good Luck, J. Parker
