Hello gents..
I´ve just buy a Euroarms Withworth Military Target Rifle , 451 cal Hexagonal bore . Someone can show me some photograps or a link about how to do paper patch hexagonal bullets , sized or not...??
I also have hear something about a special way to wrap the bullets with two rag lubed ribbons , forming a cross in the muzzle before ram the bullet.....Someone knows how to do it ??
Thanks in advance

Jack, here's a link to a how-to site for paper patching. I suppose the hexagonal Whitworth bullets would be wrapped in the same fashion as a round bullet. As far as the hexagonal bullets go, Whitworth shooters have found they need not use hexagonal bullets necessarily. A lead bullet which was round when loaded comes out of the barrel hexagonal after being bumped up and into bore shape by firing.
Many users say there is no accuracy advantage when using the hexagonal bullet and a disadvantage in trying to obtain them. I don't have a Whitworth but have shot both paper patched and grease groove bullets from my .451 Volunteer. I have settled on a 550 grain grease groove bullet myself. At my skill level, they perform the same. Among the top shooters in the 1000 yard muzzle loading rifle rifle competitions you will find advocates for both paper patch bullets and grease groove bullets, so I suppose it's anyone's guess if there is any measurable advantage in accuracy with either one at ranges within 300 yards or so.

You might find some interesting reading in the archives of the long range muzzle loading site.
