Hi folks I'm bran new on this forum so please forgive me if I upset anyone.
I'm writing from the Peoples Republic of Maryland where one (not a criminal) has to jump trough fire lit hoops to purchase a hand gun. All I want to do is purchase an HK45 standard at a good moderate price, in the $800-$900 range. Finally found a couple over the web but none of the dealers will ship to the republic even if I supply them with a local dealer's FFL licence number. does anyone know why?:(

You and I live in states (I'm in the Peoples Republik of Commifornia) where Communist Democrats parasites outnumber the producers. Our choice is to either move (I run a business and have some relatives to take care of) or tough things out, and hopefully educate those around you.

And I thought it was as bad as it could be living in the corrupt land of Illinois. Being the only state where there is NO legal way to carry concealed seems terrible, but at least we can buy a gun with little problem (unless you live in Chicago or certain suburbs where no gun stores exist). As long as you can pass a Federal background check, the only impediment is the 3 day waiting period.

Red tape is usually the reason. That or the way state law is written. Or both.
Ohio has a couple of funky ammunition laws that disallow some types of ammo to be shipped here.

Wish I lived in a different state!!!!
Then move to a different state or move to make things better where you are...
Ohio -
In 1975 I had someone look me in the eye and tell me they had paid $500.00 to have me killed. It wasn't an empty threat.
When I sought to buy and carry a firearm for my own preservation, I quickly found out the state of Ohio's attitude on that issue.

Th fight for the ability of a normal human being to have anything at all that resembled a fighting chance to survive took years.
I'm not 100% satisfied with the way things are,,,,,but,,,

I take a great deal of satisfaction knowing that some other poor bastard doesn't have to choose between being a criminal or going home to their loved ones every time they walk out the door.

(sorry - off my soap box now)

I constantly hear that only 1 state has no form of carry at all - Illinois.

But from what I've read, the gun laws in New Jersey and California are worse.

I found a great deal on a Glock 17L from a guy in Florida and really had no problems purchasing the pistol. I actually could have started the Illinois 72 hour waiting period as soon as the dealer in FL got my money, so theoretically, I could have had no wait or almost no wait if I'd known to start the wait clock earlier.

The New Jersey, California and Maryland laws sound pretty complex. I guess though if you really really needed to carry - those would be better states because the botton line is that as it stands no one is carrying in Illinois except the police and the bad guys.

The process of changing things is a long and slow process.

One of the things that I think is a valuable tool available to us, it commenting on news articles.

When I first started doing this, it was heartfelt and I was highly motivated to point out everything that I think is wrong with our society's attitudes about crime, guns, the Second Amendment and everything. But after aome time, I found it tedious. I was hearing the same inane arguments over and over and found myself giving the same responses over and over. But I took it up as a cause. Right now - I don't have any Illinois representaives to write to about concealed carry. My representaives all happen to be pro-gun, and the anit-gun politicians don't care a whole lot what I have to say because I don't live in their district. Anyway, all the letters have been written and sent, and the proposition is now tabled in Illinois. Things in Illinois now hinge on the courts decisions or future elections. And actually I think that given how slow the courts move, we have a better chance of getting things done sooner with elections than waiting on the courts.

But having said that, my local organizations - Illinois State Rifle Association and Illinois Carry (illinoiscarry.com) do a great job of highlighting articles in media publications that deal with gun issues. And so when I come across any, I make sure I post a comment. I spent about 2 hours last week writing comments to the Chicago Tribune, and a local e-zine about the lenient sentencing felons get in connection with Unlawful Use of a Weapon in Illinois.

Wayne LaPierre has spoken recently about the fact that so many federal and state gun laws go un-enforced, and yet, BATFE and many anti-gun politicians are calling for new guns laws.

In Chicago, a few months ago, Chicago Police tok down a local drug-dealer self-nicknamed "Kool-Aid" There were several members of his gang (convicted felons), that were not caught posessing drugs, but they did have firearms. They were charged with being felons and having firearms, but the maximum sentence in Illinois for that is 2 to 4 years.

So I spent a lot of time writing comments to the effect that if politicians were serious about curbing gun violence, they would go after the actual criminals committing gun violence and do things like toughen up the sentences for felons possessing firearms.

It's tedious work for me, but I feel that right now, that's the work that I can do to try to bring about change in Illinois.

Welcome to the forum. :)
I live in Maryland as well and have had the same experience with online purchases (specifically C&R).

One "out of state" dealer explained that Maryland handgun laws are "complicated" and are constantly changing so rather than keep up with current laws or risk being in violation of any Maryland laws, it's just easier to refuse the transaction. It's basically just a "CYA" thing.

If you tell me where you are, maybe I can recommend a reputable dealer in your area.

Wish I lived in a different state!!!!

If wishes were horses, we'd all eat funny tasting steak.

Either move or work to fix Maryland. Preferably the latter.

You a member of the Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association?

http://www.msrpa.org/

If not, why not?

Are you registered to vote?

If not, fix that, too.

digrega's right ... Maryland blows.
The idea that Maryland is a "shall issue" state is nothing short of BS.

Finding a law abiding citizen who has successfully obtained a Maryland CCW license is about as rare as finding a unicorn.

I have a Fla. CCW license.
It's honored in all of the surrounding states (31 states in total).
With of course the exception of the state I reside.

I would love to move out of Maryland as well.
And not just because of the gun laws.

It appears then that you have much work to do.

Working on it ...

Have a log cabin in West Virginia.
I currently use it as a vacation rental, but would love to eventually make it my home. ;)

Moving isn't that difficult,,,

It simply takes determination and a bit of planning,,,
I've done it twice in my lifetime,,,
Once with a family,,,
Once without.

But of course one must be willing to "drop your baggage",,,
As Mr. Heinlein put it.

We live in a country of incredible diversity,,,
And we are free to live in any place without hindrance,,,
Yet I find that people stay "bound" to a place beyond all rational reason.

Simply decide where you want to live,,,
And start the search for a job in that new place.

Of course you will need to sacrifice some lifestyle points,,,
But you will (supposedly) gain a better lifestyle in the long run.

If the "law of the land" truly makes you unhappy,,,
Make your home in a different land.

Or work to make the laws different,,,
Although that's a long and not always fruitful way.

I'm not trying to be snarky here,,,
But this is something I read about all the time,,,
People who hate the laws that govern where they live,,,
Yet who will not even conceive of making their home somewhere else.

I know,,,
Family concerns,,,
Too good of a profession,,,
Too much of an investment in their house.

Valid reasons all,,,
But reasons I was able to overcome.

If it's important enough to you,,,
You can/will find a way.

C'mon, Maryland is GREAT!

Sure they aren't big fans of the Constitution but look at all the good things...

The state trooper speed-traps are only every OTHER mile on the interstate.

The old Cleveland Browns got purple grape jerseys and renamed themselves after an Edgar Allen Poe poem. (Nevermind, a season or two later a new Browns team relaunched in Cleveland.)

The "double loop" around Baltimore is EASY to navigate, especially for tourists or people passing through on a roadtrip.

You like college sports? What's a tougher mascot than a turtle? (Keep your
lousy apex predators! NOTHING is scary than a soup stock product!)

You and your buddies can go for the weekend, everyone can catch a case of
crabs AND actually have your wife be glad about it...... As long as they're the softshell kind. (Sorry, if that was out of line.)

They have THE coolest looking state flag. (That one isn't really a joke. It makes it look like most other states phoned it in.)

The Orioles will certainly be unstoppable now that that Cal Ripken Jr. fella'
has retired.

It's "not really" cozy New England feeling and "not really" warm Southern feeling either. However, it gets the bad weather from both!

The "cake guy from TV" lives there! (Not the really good one from NJ. The nerdy OTHER one that works in a basement with a bunch of art school people.)

How can you not love Maryland? LOL:D

BTW: I'm just joking with everyone. Relax and have a chuckle.

Please don't get angry. Swear revenge on me. Buy a gun. WAIT SEVERAL DAYS. Go through YEARS OF GOVERNMENT RED TAPE to get a carry-permit. Then come looking for trouble. :D

(Seriously, they do have crappy gun laws in Maryland.)

There's no place like home.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keep tapping those those red high heel's.

That's Kansas, silly! ....and they were flats ..... slippers, IIRC.

I must say I agree with count as usual, while Illinois may not have CC the gun laws in places like California, NJ, NY and MA are IMO far far far worse. If you really hate MD that much move to VA or PA if you want better gun laws. If you really want a change of Climate try FL or GA.

Hey, everyone, let's keep a lid on our angst that spills out in the form of wild descriptions of how bad your state or locality is.

Commiefornia, fascists, Demoncrats, etc....

Doesn't exactly put you, or us, in the best light if we can't make our arguments without resorting to the kind of name calling one would expect to find at the local elementary school playground...

"If you really hate MD that much move to VA or PA if you want better gun laws. If you really want a change of Climate try FL or GA."

Yep, that's one proactive solution.

Everyone, hopefully, is feeling vented, and our OP has some good suggestions.

Before the thread veer becomes even more pronounced, I'm going to shut this one down.
