Wisconsin residents: CCW coming around again

Today I spoke with our state NRA liason, and he feels that this year is our best bet to get a CCW law passed, and that some of the Democrats may be willing to go along. The shootings of cab drivers and convenience store owners has put pressure on legislators from Milwaukee's north and south sides for a right to carry. So please compose your thoughts, then contact your state senator and representative. Remember, too, that Scott McCallum may _not_ be the winner for governor in 2002. (Can you say "Governor Jim Doyle?")

We here at the UW will help however we can!

Have any bills been intoduced yet? I know there was one in '99, but that died, AFAIK.

It's worth a shot. Wisconsin is one of the few states in the nation with no CCW in any form. (Except cops.)

Unfortunately, I only give it a 30-40% chance of passing. Ol' Chuckie Cvala will do his best to bottle up any bill in the Senate while the Crapital Times and the Milwaukee Urinal work hard to demonize CCW supporters.

The bill didn't die, it's been sitting in committee. And there's been some talk that if a certain Democrat is given a particular high-paying job that Chvala may acquiesce. At the last committee hearing there were a couple of hundred supporters. If there's another hearing I'm hoping for a lot more people, including the northside convenience store owner who was arrested for carrying concealed in his own shop. When and if Jim Fendry calls for "live bodies," I'll post it here.

Crossing my fingers,

Dick
