Hi There,
In 2010 I was arrested and charged with posession of a controlled substance and given a deferred prosecution program in the form of a drug court. The agreement I made with the prosecution was that I would agree to do this court program and not have to enter a guilty plea, and upon completion the prosecutor would dismiss the charges. I completed everything and they were dismissed. A day after that happened, I went to buy a gun and was denied. I found out that the courts had not yet processed the paperwork for the completion of the program and dismissal of the charges. During the program I also attended a private drug treatment facility under my own accord. Since the completion of the program I have gotten my finger prints and arrest record removed by the FBI via a request for that. I tried to expunge the case, however in the state of wisconsin a case cannot be expunged if there was not a conviction. My question is, now that my record says the charges were dismissed, if I went to buy a gun today would I be denied? I ask because I work at a sporting good store and want to buy a gun through out employee purchase program. I am able to buy a gun at a discount from manufactures, however the FFL paperwork cannot be done until the gun arrives to our facility from the manufacture, and I dont want to have them ship the gun over and then find out I cant own it and have to pay a bunch of money for the shipping both ways.
