wiping down your guns ?

Use a cotton bore patch sprayed with silicon. Rub down all outside metal, including the scope. A patch of light silicon down a clean barrel before storage is always a good thing!

...bug

I keep all my gun metal dressed with Birchwood Casey's Barricade. I just think it is a really great product.

CLP...

I use an old clean t-shirt or rag(fiber cloth) & a small amount of a synthetic CLP like LPX, Weaponshield, Gunzilla, etc.

You do not need large amounts of gun care or cleaning products for regular cleaning/oils.

A small drop or dab will do it.
Law enforcement agency armorers & professional gunsmiths say excessive oils/CLPs are some of the most common problems they see with firearms.

RIG on sheepskin is preferred. Must be a Midwest thing.
I carry a silicone cloth in my trunk and with my hunting equipment. I try to wipe a gun down with it before I put in the case. Sometime it doesn't go back in the safe the moment I get home.

I keep a clean, worn out, thin, wash cloth in the shop and apply a few dozen drops of gun oil every so often. I wad it up in the vise for compression to spread the oil, then I keep it in a clean spot in one of the drawers. After handling, the blued rifle barrels and hand guns get wiped down.

I have been using a winchester gun cloth with silicone kept in a zip lock baggy. From the replies I take that this is ok ?

Sheepskin with Weaponshield in it. When it gets too dirty, clean with brake clean and refill with Weaponshield.

Works better than other stuff I've used and leaves the gun dry enough.

I have several 'oily wiping rags' here and there. A couple of them are small chunks of cotton towel (4 inch by about 6 inch) that I've oiled up. The others are the silicone cloth wiping towels that appeared to run out of silicone after some years, so I just put oil on them (3 in 1 oil) and kept on using them. I think I like the oiled up towel best, but just about any cotton cloth will do just fine.

Eezox here with a soft cotton cloth.

I don't like to use cleaning stuff with silicone in it. The only exception is the polishing agent I use for tumbling my brass.
