wingmaster barrel?

870 wingmaster

I have a mid 70s wingmaster and I must say that It is the best quality pump shotgun I have used period!!! I have a question about my barrel.I have an old 30" bird barrel-full choke and would like to cut to 22" and am wondering if that would make it a cyl bore?I am wondering if a fixed barrel has its choke at the last few inches or tapers from the start of the barrel?

Not really sure, but I think it chokes towards the end. I could be wrong about that. I guess the only way to know for sure otherwise would be to have it cut and then measure the opening at the end to determine the choke. I believe a cylinder )open) choke is the standard .12 guage diameter of .729.

Anyone else care to take a stab at this as I don't really know the answer.

Cutting more than 2" off your barrel will make it a true cylinder. Don't do it. Get a Cabela's catalog, there's an 18" barrel with bead for about $90. Sell your old barrel for about that or keep it.

I've cropped a couple 870 barrels and regret it....

Sportsmans Guide has 20" 870 smooth bore barrels with rifle sights for $109.

You'll find bead sighted ones for even less.

Buy a 2nd barrel.
