Windows 98 question

Sometimes, when I'mreading a very long thread here or on SniperCountry.com, my modem disconnects due to time. I have two lines, and it's not a problem, so is therea way I can defeat this?

Check with your ISP. Some (like mine) disconnect you after a certain time limit, or no activity. Nothing in WinDoze per se will cause that problem.

Open your mail exec at the beginning of a session and have it check for new mail every 5 min. or so. Just let sit in the background and it will keep the line open for you if your ISP has a timeout feechur.

Frontsight, if you are using Internet Explorer 5.0 try the following actions:
1) Under Tools at the top of the page, click Internet Options.
2) Click on the Connections tab at the top of the window.
3) In the center of the window that comes up you will see Dial-Up Settings.
4) Click on Settings
5) When the window appears, click on Advanced at bottom right of page.
6) Advanced Dial-Up window appears.
7) You will now see that you can set your browser to disconnect when idle from 1 to 59 minutes. I imagine yours it set for a very short time. Just click OK on each succeeding box and you should be in business. Hope this helps. :)

What ISP do you use. I have AOL which is nasty about that. I have an add on program that keeps me online. I leave my computer signed on all day just to piss off the phone company.

Thanks, guys, I'll try these when I get home. Jim, I have two lines, so I might as well have the line up all the time...I'm paying for it!
