Wind in the Willows

Justfinished reading that book. Since I did not grow up in the US, I had a chance to enjoy it just now.

Interesting, not in the least by how much it differes from the more recent fairy tales.

The good characters are not 100% good. They are, however, a decent sort that stick together. Bribery, social differences, faith are all items missing from the more inane stories I have seen lately. And where else do the good guys, err animals strap on a brace of pistols and grab a cudgel before venturing out!

All in all, a nice read...and quite a vocabulary builder.

I enjoyed it too, I just read it about a year ago. I always wondered what "kind" of pistols the animals carried(the sign of a true gun nut). I always pictured the water rat with a single action revolver.

"Brace of pistols" implies single-shot percussion kind...as "rifles" were mentioned in the same breath. However, motor cars being in evidence, .455 Webleys would be more likely.

Oh, those gun nuts!

Cornered ( but cheery) Rat, another book to read is Watership Down (also a movie). 'Bout a bunch of rabbits.

Then go to the local Butcher shop & place the sign " You've read the book, seen the movie, now eat the cast" ! :D
