Winchester SXP Defender ?

been shopping for a home defense gun and have pretty much narrowed it down between the Winchester and a Browning BXP All Weather. I know everyone and their brother is going to say go Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 but I have played with both and they just don't have the right feel for me. I know both are tough as a gun can get so nothing against the Rem or the Mossy just the slides just are not smooth enough for my liking.

I know the Browning is a top notch gun but does anyone have any real world experience with the Winchester? This gun will only get maybe 20 - 40 rounds per year at the range using low recoil 00 loads just to keep the wife and myself familiar with the gun. Hard for me to justify 600 bucks for the Browning for little bit of use.

Page 39 of CDNN Sports flyer has this for $269.00......

The cheapest price I've seen for this gun.
I like the Winchester, very smooth as you said, and tight!

thanks for the replies guys, wish I had known about that CDNN deal yesterday but have already more or less committed at a local brick and mortar store yesterday afternoon. Never heard of this CDNN before but got them bookmarked now, seem to have a good reputation and offer some excellent deals.

Now all I have to do is get back in the groove of shooting a scattergun and get the wife used to shooting a gun that pushes back more than an AR. Any suggestions on how to do that :) ?

Re Wife shooting and dealing with recoil....

Trust me on this. Getting your wife some lessons with a qualified pro instructor may be one of the best gifts ever given.

Some good shooters are not good instructors, maybe most of them. Spouses have too much history to teach well.

When she does shoot a shotgun, she should use the heaviest shotgun she can handle and the lightest loads you can find. 7/8 oz in 12, 3/4 oz in 20 will be ideal.

HTH....

good advice Dave thanks. My club has a "Women on Target event " once a month. The wife is fair to middlin with a rifle and she can outshoot most men with small to medium caliber pistols but I think that I will send her up there for the shotgun training. I want to start her off on the right foot

BTW, I ended up walking out with a plain jane 870, just could not get past the made in Turkey part of the Winchester. Besides 50,000 police departments can't be wrong.;)

The SXP is made in Turkey as noted. It is based on the 1300 and should be a great gun for the $$$. I think you made the right choice. I've come full circle on the whole "made in USA" issue. We got too much on the line to buy products not "made in the USA" if there is an good/better alternative like the 870 or 500 in the same general price point.
