Anyone familiar with these? I have a hard time believing that this really is the same round that the FBI uses.(one article I read said its the same round another said it was the same technology as the FBI is using) Winchester already has a proven round with the ranger t-series and the ranger bonded. Is this a marketing hype? Or is it your standard jhp thats made for the general public?

Someone, somewhere, recently posted that he had contacted Winchester and was told the PDX1 is exactly the same bullet as the Ranger Bonded.

I've shot a bit of it (not much mind you $) and it functioned well in my Ruger P345 and accuracy was impressive. A bit stouter in the recoil department than the Hornady TAP load I've been using, but nothing out of bounds.

I thought the bullet looked like a ranger bullet, but wasn't sure til I read this.

after reading a little more about it, it looks like it is the ranger bonded marketed under a different name for civilian use. Also priced accordingly. LEO ranger 50 count boxes are about $20-25, the pdx1 20 count boxes are around $20.

I bought a bunch of it for $18 a box since it was the ONLY PD ammo I could find. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range but I've read some good reviews on it and I have no doubt that it will do the job.

FYI, it was chaper that then Federal Hydra-Shocks or the Hornady Personal Defense ammo I picked up a couple of weeks ago.... compared to other ammo it seemed like a bit of a value.

I think it's just plain GOOFY that these folks have dreamt up the term "bonded", like it's some kinda' gee-whiz technology. If you know what you're looking at, you see right off that this thing is just plated, EXACTLY the same as the Rainier product. It does have a bit more aggressive scalloping on the cavity opening, and there are skives cut thru the plating to promote uniform expansion.
Of Course, they'll work. The core is pure soft lead, and the cavity is pretty big. They will likely deform, even if the cavity is fouled, because they are so soft. There is nothing amazing about this bullet at all, and they're worth about 9~12 cents a piece, if you could buy the bullet alone in bulk.
The 50 round boxes of "police ammo" are no longer being produced for public consumption. Someone made a stink because the words "police ammo" are written on the box, so we lowly civilians will be allowed only the 20 or 25 round boxes from here on out.
I would rely on my own loads for everything, but in the event that I do have to shoot a bad guy, the courts will go easier on me if I use factory ammo. Otherwise, there is nothing about any of these "designer" rounds to warrant a price of much more than 17 cents each.

Here is an expanded 9mm PDX1.

Looks just like a Ranger T-Series but the talons have been slightly disabled, just like the Ranger Bonded line.
