Anyone have a pet factory load for one of these in 243W? I recently
bought one in great original condition, although I no longer hunt or
reload I enjoy shooting at paper and steel out to 600yds.I sold one
of these several years ago in 220 Swift--it was the only rifle I ever shot
a 5 shot 200 yd group that was 1-1/4". Guess I should have kept it!:o
Here is a picture--I almost cry when I see it:( Pete

Mine likes federal premium and hornady. But you will have to try them and see what yours likes. So far the best was hornady v-max 58 gr. 1 1/2" @ 200. The federal premium was a little over moa.

Welcome to the world of Firearm Regret.

I never sold or traded a firearm that I didn't regret getting rid of. It's hard to say what would work best in your gun since all guns are different.

That's why I reload. Since you don't you have to try a bit of each to see what works best.

Pretty much any good quality ammo should get you close.

Having said that, The Hunting Shack sells Loaded Berger Ammo in 243 with 90 grn VLD bullets.

I find Berger bullets extremelty accurate in my guns, though I load 87 grn Bergers in my 243.

All the 243s I build seem to do best with 65 gr Vmax seated into the lands [2.7" OAL], and 40 gr 4895 [all that fits]. Chonos ~ 3500 fps.

This is a wimpy short range load [for a 243], but it shoots tiny groups with all 243s at 100y.
